Any love for Dominici's O3: A Trilogy?..
« on: March 28, 2016, 05:00:23 PM »
Of course I'm talking about the last two albums.. Idk if the first one is even loved by Charlie himself.. :lol

But what about the other two?.. They're amazing albums IMO.. Definitely way underrated prog metal albums.. Some sections are very similar to DT's, but that's always welcome while they're not to many; and they're not..

Fav tracks:

The Monster :hefdaddy
School of Pain (that final riff :metal)
King of Terror :tup

Nowhere to Hide
The Real Life
March into Hell
Revelation
Genesis

Fav album:

O3: A Trilogy - Part Two (although by a hair over Part Three)

Whole stuff:

O3 A Trilogy: Part One (2005)

1.   "Introduction"
2.   "Unwilling Volunteer"
3.   "My New Land"
4.   "I Found My Love"
5.   "The Dream"
6.   "A Day of Conflict"
7.   "The Order Comes"
8.   "The Plan"
9.   "I Will Return"
10.   "The Hand of God"

O3 A Trilogy: Part 2 (2007)

1.   "The Monster"
2.   "Nowhere to Hide"
3.   "Captured"
4.   "Greed, the Evil Seed"
5.   "School of Pain"
6.   "The Calling"
7.   "The Real Life"
8.   "The Cop"
9.   "A New Hope"

O3 A Trilogy: Part 3 (2008)

1.   "King of Terror"
2.   "March Into Hell"
3.   "So Help Me God"
4.   "Liquid Lightning"
5.   "Enemies of God"
6.   "Revelation"
7.   "Hell on Earth"
8.   "Genesis"

Also, I have a doubt regarding musical composition.. Wikipedia says: "Charlie Dominici's only contribution to the performance of the second and third albums, besides writing the songs and story, was on vocals."

Is that true?.. I mean, did he write the music for those albums?.. Cos I'm not buying it.. :-\

I'd say both last albums were composed by Brian Maillard & Co (Solid Vision's guys) rather than Charlie..

The solid vision guys did a great job with those two albums.   They clearly went in with the brief of doing DT style prog metal albums and pulled it off brilliantly.

After enjoying these albums I also found Brian Maillards solo album and it's equally enjoyable.  Clearly huge Petrucci influences and it's equally as good as JP's solo album.

Part 2 is my favourite, it's a really good cd. Less complex than part 3, but I like the songs more. :tup

I expected very little with these 2 albums but was actually blown away by them. Yeah I've heard all the "DT clone" comments
but the fact is they are great albums with great playing and they are sonically pleasing to my ears. I listen to them both
often. Some outstanding heavy hitting prog metal.

Parts 2 and 3 are great albums and Charlie sounds really good, but part 1 doesn't do much for me. Been a while since I listened to them though, so can't even remember which part is my favourite or which songs  :lol :-X

I think these albums would get more respect if they didn't have CD's name. I like them a good bit.

Haven't heard in a while but I got my copies through Charlie and got them signed. They are solid from what I remember but it's been years since I've listened... I need to get my CDs out and listen again.
I don’t know what to put here anymore

What do you mean by that?.. If they didn't have names then one should refer to them as "Dominici's solo album part 1", "... part 2" and "... part 3".. I don't see any difference in call them "O3: A Trilogy part 1", etc..

Haven't listened to them to be honest.

You totally should.. Don't listen the first album though, just Part 2 and Part 3..

Or if you don't have time to or feel like it, listen to the tracks I list as my favorites..

Okay, I admit I sound like if I were Charlie now..

I have the first one signed. It's a pretty relaxing acoustic album. I like it more than I originally thought I would. Part 2's my favorite. Part 3 I haven't listened to all that much. I don't really mind the "DT-clone" thing at the end of the day. It's still good music and CD's singing it after all, which makes it interesting.

I haven't listened to them in a while but as most have said I've really enjoyed 2 and 3.

There is a significant portion of the population here that don't take anything Charlie does seriously for an assortment of reasons.

I feel like they probably got more recognition then they otherwise would have because of Charlie's involvement, 'cause the albums are pretty standard prog metal stuff.

Then again a lot of people like standard prog metal stuff, so who knows.

Not counting myself out of that group necessarily btw, I have Part 3 and think it's pretty good. Charlie sounds great.

I absolutely love these albums.  Even Part 1, which I listen to the least, is great.  Dominici is actually a great musician a evidenced by his guitar skill on the first one.  But, it is the one I listen to least.

Part 2 was excellent but Part 3 blew me away.  Knowing his, um, "interesting" ideas about aliens and whatever, I think he may actually believe that stuff but regardless, I think the story makes a great concept.  Sure, it's heavily DT styled but I didn't feel it was a ripoff at all.

I have to disagree. When I saw this thread a few days ago I listened to O3, and really at this point I couldn't care less about whether it's CD singing or someone else. In fact, I would say that I think CD is a great singer overall, better than JLB in many aspects.
But, the music is just run-of-the-mill prog metal, at least to me. That's what really brings it down for me.

I listened to one of these once.  Didn't care for it that much.

But what really turned me against it was reading things that CD posted about it and other topics, including some stuff here (IIRC).  He just came across as, well, someone I wouldn't necessarily want to do business with.

But hey, I wish him well.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

I think the 3 albums are quite good.

The second is my favorite, as it seems to be everybody´s favorite.

The first is like a Springsteen´s Nebraska, and I believe it has some emotional depth the other albums hasn´t reached. It´s very good, I would recommend it for a winter night...

Dominici... he is a cool guy.  :metal

I've only heard part 2.  I was really impressed by CD's vocals, but, otherwise, I don't really even remember the music.

I only have the second two.  Someone told me the first one is all acoustic or something like that so I never bothered with it.  But I like the ones I have quite a bit.
