Guys!  I've pimped this band for awhile.   They are releasing two albums in the near future.

My buddy Sean Thompson (who also did my new theme song for the Jammin Dude's Neighborhood) as finally put an actual band together so that Odd Logic is now a project that can play shows locally instead of just being a studio project.   (this is kindof following the early pattern of Steven Wilson and PT)

He had an albums worth of material that was his own stuff, and then a new albums worth of material that has been performed by the new band.

The stuff he wrote himself has just been released first as the new Odd Logic album and it's called Penny for Your Thoughts.   I'll confess that **I** haven't even had the opportunity to sit an listen to it yet, but I will be giving it a spin in the car on the way to work in the morning.

I can tell you that I've never heard a thing from this guy that I didn't think was amazing.   Sean is just an incredibly gifted musician and songwriter.

Please feel free to spread this link around and please remember that he's a starving artist.   The album is technically free, but donations are appreciated and they do take PayPal...

Download the full album here...

I've given this a couple of spins now.   REALLY dense album.   Guys, this is some amazing prog rock for nothin!  Please check these guys out!

I'm not a fan of the album cover myself, but the music on this album is just awesome!!  And it comes with a booklet which I'm pretty sure spells out the story line for the concept.

Gonna bump this once more.   Guys, I'm getting a really awesome "Ted Leonard sings for Opeth" vibe from "The Island"...track 8.

The album is a bit "stream of consciousness"...a little like Native Construct...but the music is really awesome!!

I liked the theme song for the Jammindude show. I'll definitely check these guys out, and thanks for sharing!  :metal

I have to admit.... the new album took awhile to get into.   But knowing the story really helped.    It's just not as song oriented as previous albums and is more focused on the narrative.    But after several spins, I'm totally hooked.   The Traveller and The Island are immediate stand outs...but Life, Lore and Love is growing on me fast.    This album is just a beast!!!   And it's still available FOR FREE.   They've recently made some of their other albums available for free.

In a way I think it sucks that a band of this caliber should be reduced to giving it away in order to get noticed...but how can you possibly turn your back on free progressive metal???

Giving it a listen as we speak. Sounds good so far. I only gave the concept a quick skim over, seems a little confusing. I''l give the album a few listens then revisit the concept.

Good first impression, really liked Lighthouses. Kind of had it on in the background so wasn't 100% focused on the lyrics. Will definitely be giving it a few more spins.

Personally, I thought "If We Were Live" was a slightly stronger album.   But I've just been on a huge kick lately.   Their double concept album Legend of Monta is also being given away for free for a limited time.    As is their debut "Parallax Panorama" (that one is a bit more demo sounding, but has some real gems)

The remaining album "Over the Underworld" is music that is intentionally supposed to be synced up with a certain section of the movie "Underworld"....the werewolf movie with Kate Beckinsale.

All the albums are here:

Cheers dude, just finished my third listen through Penny for your Thoughts. Strong album, I still really like Lighthouses, the whole album has a really great vibe to it. Something about the whole thing reminds me of Ayreon (which can only be a good thing).

Bump.

Just to say this band are great and deserve a listen. A lot of people on this forum would really love this band. Try Penny for your Thoughts for free, what have you got to lose?

Such a shame when quality bands like this have to give away their music for free just to get their name out there. Don't be fooled by the fact it's a free download, this shit is legit!!

Indeed!   I've been giving a lot more spins to the two Legends of Monta albums, and while the voice acting is very subpar, the music itself is OFF THE CHART good!

Seriously guys, these guys are just way too talented to be ignored.   Sean Thompson is quickly turning into one of my favorite songwriters.

Yea, I've downloaded the two Legends of Monta albums and given them 2-3 listens each so far. Good stuff but not hitting me like Penny for your Thoughts.

I'll get around to the other two more recent albums next. Probably within the next month  :metal

If you haven't checked it out yet, "If We Were Live" is my favorite from them by far.    Though that one is $5, it's well worth it.

Over the Underworld is a little weird by itself, as it's made to sync up with a portion of the Kate Beckinsale movie Underworld.  But when you see them together, it's pretty freakin amazing.

New album incoming from this hugely underrated band.

Considering they released their last album (which ranks just outside of my top 10 of the year) for FREE earlier this year, it's no mean feat.

Honestly, check out Penny For Your Thoughts on their bandcamp page. Not to be missed.

Sean is nothing short of brilliant.   Odd Logic has never recorded anything that wasn't worth owning.

That being said, I personally (and I've told Sean this....I'm always brutally honest with him) thought Penny was *just* really good.   There are so many great parts that I actually end up listening to it over and over again just because the parts that I love are good enough to save the album.   But it was a bit of a step down from "If We Were Live" which is just an amazing album.

I have not heard the studio version of the new album "Effigy" yet, but Sean is giving me a test copy next week, so I will report back.    I already love the artwork *a BILLION* times better than I did PFYT.

I have to add that I've been listening to the debut album "Parallax Panorama" a lot.    Even though it sounds a bit "demo-y" at times, I think it is some of his strongest material songwise....and that one is also free on CD Baby.   (FREE PROG METAL GUYS!!!  Seriously!!  Check this out!!)    He has told me that he also is very fond of that material, and is even considering re-recording it (or at least some of it)......give it a bit of a make over since he's become so much more talented in the studio since that was recorded.

OH MY WOW!!   Guys, I am listening to the brand new album from Odd Logic.   I have to say that I already love the opening 17 min epic better than anything off the last album.    Effigy is going to be a monster album!

I will post a full review soon.   But I promise you guys, If you haven't checked these guys out, you're missing out.

Update....I guess what I'm holding is a "test pressing" and he's in the final stages of fine tuning the songs. He's making some rearrangements on two songs...but it should be ready in a few weeks.

LOVING IT!!!

I am so stoked for this album!   I can tell you guys right away that the opening epic title track is one of the most amazing things I've ever heard!  I'm not sure if Sean took any of my suggestions as far as a couple of the other tracks are concerned, but I know he did do some rearrangements on  A couple of the songs from my test pressing. I'm really excited to hear what the final product sounds like!

Just purchased the new album on Bandcamp. I had to pay double what they were asking as I feel these guys need as much support as they can get. Can't believe it has been less than a year since their last album. Sean must be a machine  :lol

I'll be blasting this a lot this week I think  :metal

I can't wait til I get home so I can see what Sean did to the tracks he was talking about redoing.

This album is truly amazing! I honestly think this is probably Sean's best work!

I listened to it last night and this morning, and the changes he made were big improvements.  The biggest change was to The Mercenary.  The second half out about the two minute mark shifted into something really mellow and Sean later decided that it didn't quite work with the nearly death metal feel of the first half.   The new version is much much better.  The only other change was adding a second verse to The Yearning.

I really hope everyone gives this a spin. The title track alone is worth the price of admission!

3 listens in and this is awesome stuff. It's definitely in a similar vein to Penny for Your Thoughts but I think it's a better album, on the whole. There's a lot to digest so I'll hold off going anymore into depth until I've listened more  :metal

Glad I stumbled into this thread. Checked out the title track of their new album. Which I didn't know till I clicked their band camp link was released yesterday.

I'll say...that is some good shit right there. What a good first new album of the year I decided to hear. Will be buying once I get my new laptop.

I just stumbled upon this thread last year and took a punt on their last album, Penny for Your Thoughts. As far as I know that album is still a free download (but you can pay for it as well). Penny for Your Thoughts is also amazing and just missed out being in my top 10 albums of last year, which is really saying something as last year was full of so many good albums. These guys have like 500 likes on Facebook or something, it's criminal as I think they are incredible. There is so much here that prog metal fans would love. I think they are better than a lot of bands who literally have 100x more fans.

Some of you may have noticed that I've only recently started to be active again.   Through March and April....I was gone.   My mother in law (who we've been taking care of in house for 12 years) passed away on March 5th.

Things are starting to get back to normal, and so I finally recorded a new episode that Ive been meaning to do since January.   Odd Logic's new album is amazing...and I'm even offering a personal money back guarantee (with the caveat that you must be an actual fan of the genre) for those who make the purchase.

Here's my review.  I hope you all like it, and I'm sorry it took so long.   I honestly believe this is the most criminally overlooked band in prog metal today.

I honestly have not been on top of it as much as I should be.   I lost my job last week (already found another one, but it was still tough).  And then I had to put down my wonderful dog a few days ago.  BUT HERE IT IS!!!   Part 6 of my Odd Logic album review!!!  Monta has become one of my favorite concept progressive metal pieces of all time!!!  It is THAT GOOD!!

There is a link on the video where you can download both albums for FREE!!!  What have you got to lose??   Download...enjoy...and share Seattle's most criminally overlooked band!!!
