The Astonishing as full length anime movie
« on: March 19, 2016, 07:01:08 AM »
From Nyc, don't drive too often. Took a long road trip yesterday solo and absolutely cranked the full album, was glorious. About halfway through I thought of how cool it would be if they did the movie of this record as a full length animated feature, but in style of Forsaken video or similar. Characters could be larger than life, they could do all sorts of trippy scenes. (Warning I am about to spell every characters name wrong) Daryus could be super oversized and seemingly invincible, xander could be a little munchkin w eyes as wide as his head, Faythe and Gabriel can be about the same height explaining the scene where she gets attacked, Nefaryous could be super animated w emotions like psychotic one second super regal the next, Ahrys could be strong but totally outmatched by Daryus.

Anyways I thought about this way too much and need to leave it in the ether here! Hope they do something like this one day! :corn

On the one hand, there aren't any story elements in The Astonishing that would warrant an animated adaptation over a live action one. On the other, the story itself is kind of bland, and a unique visual flair in addition to the already strong audio may be just what is needed to bring the story to life. Forsaken is my favorite DT music video by a long shot, so I'd totally be on board for a full length feature in that vein.

I'd definitely be down for it, could turn out pretty good. I was also a fan of the Forsaken video. I kinda wouldn't have minded seeing them do another. I thought Enemy Inside would have lended itself pretty well to it. Although I imagine budget comes into play.

Also @Randaran, Love the quote under your avatar. Neon Genesis Evangelion is like my favourite thing in the world, ever. I was actually doing a photoshoot the other day as Shinji :P </threadhijack>

I'm pretty sure that you are the first person to comment on that quote. I love NGE as well, especially the End of Evangelion film. It's the work that sparked my interest in animation.

The Forsaken music video is even better on mute.

:( I can't disagree more. Unlike a good portion of DT songs from that era, Forsaken is just as long as it needs to be.

Can we just get it out of the way and spread Astonishing memes around the internet??

Plus if it becomes an anime....then someone will be bound to turn it into an anime porn sooner or later  :eek

It's like people think anime can't be serious or something.

As someone who has never really watched anime, I admit that many of the stereotypes of it push me away from wanting to get into it. I'd imagine this is the same for many others as well.

Even the serious stuff is awful. I can't stand anime.

The exception being Dragonball Z, but I only watch Abridged anymore.

I haven't watched it but the Steins;Gate game is one of my favourite things ever. Really blew me away, I thought from the way it started it was going to be silly and fun but the story was just, amazing. Makise is one of my favourite characters now. (I love the Tsundere characters in shows :P)

Adding Neon Genesis Evangelion to the list of serious anime recommendations as well. As mentioned earlier one of my favourites of all time.

If we're talking serious recommendations, I have to bring up Legend of the Galactic Heroes. It's the source of my avatar, and the series I would be most comfortable watching in public. It's essentially Game of Thrones meets Star Wars, but IMO better than either.

It would be great to see some of you guys in the dedicated anime thread; recently, it seems as though Genowyn and I are the only ones who post there.

I keep on meaning to pop in but I don't keep up with what is out there enough to contribute anything. I need to start watching more again, at the moment my free-time tends to be spent on writing my Eva stuff or playing games.

Most of the shows we talk about are not by any means recent (as in, aired within the past year). The last page or so is an exception, but it isn't usually like this. There's no need to be up to date on the medium.

By "Eva writing", are you talking about analytical pieces? Those tend to be fascinating reads, especially when the author's interpretations of the series run counter to my own.

Unfortunately not as much analytical stuff, I've done a few pieces about the characters but it's mostly just somewhat well-written (at least I like to think so :P) fan-fiction.
