Yeah, expected that. Well, not exactly that, but expected that I won't win this one. Technically, I stole Chad's pearl too. :lol

So, congrats Brent I guess.

Edit: and I think Chad got ahead of me too, by exactly one point. Fucker. :lol

I might have had a shot in this if Nelson got two pinks in Round 6 and 8 and I got two silvers. Well, that's that.

Pretty clear that Brent has this in the bag.  Congrats dude.  'twas a well earned victory.

It shall be close for 2nd though... really not sure.

(2 x gold) + (2 x pearl) vs Diamond + (2 x silver)

:hifive:... my one song that didn't earn any star!

I just went back and looked at all my rankings
First - once
Second - thrice
Third - once
Fifth - once
Seventh - twice
Eighth - twice

Not a lot of middle ground for my scores (other than that fifth).  Either really good, or pretty bad.

Holy shit. I know this silver star basically means naught (nuggetz) for me at this point, but you can't imagine how happy I am to get a good score for this band, been loving them so much. The first three songs (I Hold Dominion being the first one) of the album are the most accessible stuff if you ask me, but the entire album is great. Not a big fan of the first album yet but II is also pretty great.

And the final standings.. I have absolutely no idea, I'll surely be near the bottom but I'm not sure if I'm deadlast yet. It's possible.

Ah, so it's 6-6-5, not 6-5-4. Which means Chad has one point advantage in this department, not two. Pearl is definitely 3 points then. That means Chad and me are possibly tied for the second place.

Mine's a little more extreme :lol I've been 8th, 9th or 10th 4 times. And the others were 2nd, 3rd, 3rd and 6th.

EDIT: Oh and to Dave, that new Long Distance Calling is amazing, if you liked this one as much as you did, you'll love it.

I've been 6th, 4th, 1st, 1st, 4th, 5th, 8th and 5th. Not too bad save for that 8th place in Round 7.

All I care about now is if Chad kicked my ass or vice versa.

You might be last, you might not be. But wherever you are, you're actually tied with someone else.

Ah, so it's 6-6-5, not 6-5-4. Which means Chad has one point advantage in this department, not two. Pearl is definitely 3 points then. That means Chad and me are possibly tied for the second place.
When I came up with the idea I made a bunch of tables with different ways to degrade the scores. But I found that the tables where the score dropped at every increment resulted in the difference between a star that few had collected and one that lots of people had was too great. I didn't know how well everyone would distribute themselves among the rankings, for all I knew people wouldn't give a shit and would just send for whichever categories they though they had the best songs for, resulting in some stars being far more popular. I didn't like the idea of stars that were too valuable and stars that were worthless, so I went for this table, where it has a steep rolloff at the beginning and then only changes in value every second row.

Also, pearl is worth 4 points.

What? Either you fucked up the numbers then, or I did. All bonus stars add up to 187 then. No way it's 28% from the whole amount if 88 is 15%. You see, if 88 is 15%, 176 is 30%, and we have 187.

I have no idea anymore.

So every pretty much knows who won, so let's make it official:

I wasn't sure if you'd prefer the formal or informal, so I made both, even though these images are worthless. Congratulations Brent, you've won!

You definitely deserved this win. You were without doubt one of the most consistent players - one of only two people to get a second diamond star, one of only two people to be awarded a non-bonus star in every round, and while you didn't get a single gold star you did manage to get four silver, more than anyone else. You seemed to have dialed into my tastes a lot more easily than anyone else did, as you were the only person who didn't really falter at any point. Whether it was straight up hard rock, a surprising djent entry, or something with a bit of atmosphere, you managed to impress in every round. Infact, the song I liked the least from you was one that I got in the qualifiers, so you made all the right choices it seems.

Alright, for everyone else...here's the big reveal. First up is what you've all been waiting for the mostthe least probably: all of the star values laid out.

Next up is the table I used to keep track of everything. This shows how many points everyone had, and has everyone ranked. Click to see it in its original size, as the forum resizes it.

Finally if anyone cares, a fancy pie chart showing point distribution of all the stars. Again just click to see it in its original size, if you care.

Thanks David - it was a fun ride.

I see a Bolsters roulette as almost the ultimate challenge

............and I was never confident at any stage :lol   Just plugged away and consistency won the day I suppose.

Now watch me stuff up the other couple where I do have some sort of confidence in what I have to send :lol  Then again I might win em all and retire unified , undisputed champ :neverusethis:

Thanks everyone for a fun roulette

Yeah, stealing that Sapphire, and have you NOT steal the Amethyst made all the difference.  Close one there dude.

And interesting that Dimension Act made the 'check-it-out' list without earning even a pink.     Also cool how Rich got two coal stars, but still finished 4th.  Talk about being hot and cold!

Well there were three things that detracted from that song for me: Overlong medley intro, excessive amount of instrumental sections, fadeout at the end. I liked what was going on in the song for the mostpart and I figured the other songs on the album might not have these shortcomings, so I added it.

Also, the next few days I will be working on some "best-of" spotify playlists for those interested in that sort of thing. I'll post them once they're done.

Cool that despite having a lot of 'good but not great' ratings that ended up being on the lower half of the results still got you to check out albums, like Rival Sons, Novembre and Lechuga. Maybe my lowsy song-picking skills will be compromised.
