Dubstep > Karn Evil #9??
To be fair, in this round I put several genres > Karn Evil #9.

Instrumental coming up, and thus the completion of sending all 7 themes.  Just need to decide if I want to formally put it into the emerald bucket.
I don't think you've covered all of them yet. Where is your ruby entry? Or peridot? Or aquamarine?

My Xandria submission covered four themes - world, ballad, multi-vocalist, and orchestral (sorry, I can't remember off the top off my head which color is which theme); ELP covered keys/pre 1979.

Told you I was doing it in a very unique way.   :)
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad

I suppose there's enough from each vocalist that it can qualify for that, but I don't think I would have awarded the orchestral star to it had you asked. All I remember is some background noise that sounded like strings, and I said that the influence had to be "significant" for a song to qualify. :P

So three on that, synth and pre-80's for ELP. That's five, you still need to send an instrumental and something symphonic/orchestral if getting all seven is your goal here.

I guess that finalizes my instrumental decision then!  I was gonna go a different route, but I've got ya covered.  The song I'll submitting was always on my radar.  I want to leave my final submission open to any possibility.

Oh man, playing on this roulette would have been awesome, but I'd have got 3 consecutive coal stars anyways, so...

I'm so curious what Bolsters will say about my song this round. I discovered it completely randomly, and my first listen was basically alternating between "wtf is this" and "this is amazing".

It's not 36 minutes long, and neither is it an instrumental, though. So I guess I'm not winning in coolness points.

And of course, the bonus stars being awarded: sapphire, emerald, amethyst, and peridot. This also means that the final three pearl stars will be handed out in the emerald, amethyst, and peridot rankings. :o

Cozy Powell - Roach in the Drum Kit
Wishbone Ash - Throw Down the Sword
Pearl - This Star Sucks (but, actually, PelleK - Bag of Tricks)
Eisley - Colors
Defacto - When Daylight Dies
Ignea - Let's Wear Manteau
Waken Eyes - Exodus
(no idea) - Wings of Toddler And Cat
my song
ale - Drink Up, Bro

So some fucker decided to steal the pearl star from me... we'll see how it goes.

Alright, so something has been bugging me. I don't particularly like springing this on all of you, but I have to rectify something here even though I made no note of me eventually doing this in the rules at the start.

I've said several times already that I wanted to be consistent with handing out the pink sympathy stars, and I have to admit now that I feel that I have failed to do this. There are a number of songs already that I have not awarded stars to that I feel either got a raw deal, or are of the same quality as songs that were awarded pink stars. Therefore I intend to award a number of pink stars to songs from previous rounds to hopefully right this imbalance.

I know some of you already think there's too many pink stars and you joke about their apparent worthlessness, so I guess some of you are rolling your eyes at the idea of me handing out more of the things than I already have. But if it's a choice between having people feel that way, or having some people feeling like I've swindled them out of points they deserved, I'd very much rather people be bitching about the former.

So, during the beginning of this round I will also be relistening to the songs that were not awarded a star, and in some cases I will also relisten to the coal star songs. When I'm done with this, I will post a list of songs that will be retroactively awarded pink stars. As mentioned I already have several in mind that I want to give stars to, but I think it's only fair that I give all of the songs that were not awarded points a chance. So that's what I am going to do.

TL;DR version: I'm giving pink stars to some of the previous rounds' songs. Deal with it.

Well, I'm going to meh this for two reasons: I certainly won't get any more starts since I'm already at maximum (selfish, yes), and I think you should stick with your decisions whenever you made them. You didn't think that song should get a pink star at that moment? Well, tough luck.

I mean, what makes you so sure you know how to properly award pink stars now? You can re-listen and award some more stars for earlier rounds, find some grower songs, but what about Round 7 and 8? What if some of the grower songs are there? Will you be relistening to the Round 8 songs a few weeks later and postponing the final results until then? I guess no, because that's ridiculous. So, tough luck. I don't see why it should be any other way for any previous round.

But you're the host and it's your roulette... so I'll just stick to sending good songs and leave the decisions to you.

It's not a matter of finding grower songs, it's about comparing songs with pink stars verses those that don't and making it consistent. I'm relistening to familiarise myself with the songs again, not find out if I like them more now than I did previously. I've received 111 songs so far, while I could certainly not listen to anything and just go with the ones I would like to give a pink star to on gut reaction, I don't think that's entirely fair.

It's hardly the first time anyone has relistened to previous rounds and given more points, either.
