If anyone was interested in listening to what I was sent and hasn't done it themselves, the Spotify playlist has been added to the OP. A couple of them weren't on Spotify however.

You were spot on. 12:03am Monday morning now, but I haven't got shit for you.

I was considering posting the rules early instead of waiting until after the Q2 results were posted, so I'll do that before I go to bed.

Rules
  • There will be eight rounds.
  • All rounds will be open.
  • There are however seven optional bonuses available (see below).
  • In the event that players are tied after eight rounds, an additional round consisting of only those tied players will commence. The winner of this additional round will win the roulette.

Rather than points, players will be awarded various stars based on their performance. There's no head-to-head anymore - this time I will rank all of the songs I receive in a round, and the stars will be awarded based on where your song ranks. The four stars from last time will return but there are a couple of new stars aswell.
  • The "best" song of the round will be awarded a diamond star (). Gold is no longer the most valuable star.
  • The runner-up will receive a gold star ().
  • Third and Fourth place will both receive a silver star ().
  • The pink or "sympathy star" () also returns. It may be awarded to any of the remaining players (ranked from 5th to 10th) if their song is also "excellent".
  • The bronze or "begrudging star" () serves essentially the same function as last time. In the event that there are songs I am not too fond of in the top four, they will receive the bronze star in place of the star normally awarded to that position.

There are now seven additional bonus stars, which are awarded to any song that meets their criteria. You may receive only three of these bonuses throughout the roulette, you can net just one of them per song, and you personally can not aquire any of the bonuses twice. Since you can only be awarded three of the seven, it's up to you to decide which ones you want to go for (if any). The bonus stars are awarded along with any other stars your song qualifies for based on ranking. If you send a song that meets the requirements for multiple bonus stars, you must tell me which star you would like to be awarded for the song. To avoid any confusion, if you intend to obtain a bonus star for your song, tell me when you send it, even if the song in question is only eligible for one bonus. If you don't do this and I receive something that fits a bonus, I may ask you if you would like a bonus star for the song...but I am more likely to just not award you any bonuses for it at all. You've been warned.

The seven bonus stars are as follows:
  • The ruby star () is awarded to songs that prominently feature an orchestra or a symphony.
  • The sapphire star () is awarded to ballads of any kind.
  • The emerald star () is awarded to instrumentals.
  • The amethyst star () is awarded to any song released in 1979 or earlier.
  • The garnet star () is awarded to any song that is world music influenced.
  • The aquamarine star () is awarded to any song driven primarily by synths, pop music, or to any song that is electronic.
  • The peridot star () is awarded to songs featuring two or more vocalists, or songs prominently featuring a choir.

And finally, two last stars...
  • The white or "pearl star" () will be awarded to the highest-ranking song, in each of the seven bonus categories listed above. I will rank the songs in each bonus category as the roulette progresses, and whoever sent the song ranked at the top of each list will hold a pearl star. If someone else sends a song I like more in a bonus category, they will take the pearl star for themselves. There must be at least three songs in a particular category for me to rank before the pearl star will be awarded in that category.
  • The black or "coal star" () is awarded each round to the person whose song is placed last. The star has no point value (positive or negative). However, if you receive three of these coal stars, you will be eliminated from the roulette!

Variability

In an attempt to make the bonus star system a little more interesting, I have decided to take a rather unusual approach to assigning their point values. Instead of having each of the stars being worth the same (that's too boring!), the seven stars will instead have a variable value. What does that mean? It means that the value of each star is determined by the number of people who have aquired it. So, all of the bonus stars will start out at the same value, but as more people collect any particular star, the number of points it is worth will begin to decrease. :eek

In the event that people get eliminated from the roulette for receiving three coal stars, any bonus stars they collected before being booted will no longer count towards this. So if someone with some bonus stars gets eliminated, the stars they had will go back up in value for everyone still in the game.

I'm not complaining. It's cool to see the stars ranking system making its glorious return. I hoped we'll do rating system rather than ranking but hey, I'll live with it.

Coal stars are there just so Chad won't send you Animotion-like bands three times, right? :lol

I don't think I would like the stack/ranking method as much as rating. Whenever I do kinda well in roulettes it's with consistent scores, I hardly ever win rounds.

That being said, I'll probably be thrown out of this roulette in a couple hours so I ain't complaining  :lol

Well, I won four rounds out of seven in his first roulette, and one other roulette I won (Buddyhunter's) was played with the ranking method too, so I guess I have a decent chance in this. A lot of songs I prepared could be round winners I think. In fact, I just realized how much I'm looking forward to play in this one. Been quite a long time since I played in the roulette where the host tastes are quite similar with my own. I just hope I'm not eliminated, because that would be a waste. Evergrey are a solid band and I love the song, and even if Dave doesn't like it, getting kicked because of one fuck up - and Mark of the Triangle isn't a fuck up by any means - when I nailed it with my performance most of the time in the past (the latest being a week ago in first qualifier) is just wrong.

Basically the more stars you get that aren't black the better.
But if you get bonus stars and a bunch of other people get the same bonus stars the bonus is less powerful.

it sounds like each bonus is weighted differently too so some bonus stars might not be as valuable  :lol

I'm all for mixing it up with different or innovative roulette systems.  This one looks especially challenging in that - although the ranking is fairly straightforward, the scoring system is an unknown at best, and a moving target with the bonus themes.

There is some merit to the KISS principle.

All I've really done is take the standard ranking system that tons of people have used and put two spins on it - bonuses that fluctuate based on popularity, and a bonus for the best song in each category. Sure there are a lot of stars but seven of them are functionally identical, they are just separate so that they can eventually have different values.

I guess I should just scrap the v3 system now since it's more complicated and intricate than this is, besides also being a somewhat bizarre concept. :\

P.S. starting writeups now.
