Actually, don't take those bands as a reference for Ska (at least no doubt)

Here you have some ska

agreed.  I was giving examples of bands that are generally associated with the genre and with relatively larger appeal that I would have assumed someone around in the 90's might have heard of.  I wasn't trying to say they were the definition of the genre.

Ok then.  Not unenjoyable - I wouldn't cringe if it was playing at a dinner/house party, but not anything I'd consciously or actively seek out or reach for to press play.

Tyrias

twosuitsluke sounds like someone I'd love as a participant in a roulette, even if he ends up in last place :lol.

This. You were the first one I thought of, with the Caravan Palace, Russkaja and whatnot  :lol a lot of fun to have someone like that in a roulette.

WTH is "ska"?
A genre that doesn't need post- or -core to be described.

That doesn't mean it doesn't suck though. I mean, there are genres like shoegaze and dubstep.
Those two definitely suck :P

Awwww shucks, thanks you guys  :blush

I'll see if I can stay the duration in someone's roulette and try to send completely different genres for each round. Would be a lot of fun.

Speaking of Caravan Palace, I saw them at Boomtown festival last year, my girlfriend is a huge fan, not something I would normally go for but after seeing them live I completely got into them. I've realised there is a pattern forming as I'm going through my library looking for potential roulette songs. All the ones I'm considering are bands that put on an incredible live show and are also mainly fusing multiple genres together. Good times, could get addicted to this.

Scorpion

I have sent. Going the metal approach with this one, I just hope that it doesn't completely blow up in my face. :lol

last.fm isn't scrobbling  :sadpanda:
I've got Spotify set to Private. :ninja:

Once Sir Walrus Cauliflower has sent, I will post the first blurred image, a completely original idea that I had.

Edit: Also, I want to get through these qualifiers quickly, so I'm not going to put too much time or effort into writeups for 17 songs. A couple of sentences at most is what you're all going to get.

Number City is a cool song. Not what I would necessarily go with, even just from Descension, but it's cool. And it's one of those that's a bit creepy as to why it's cheery, given the subject matter.

That is all. I'm not in this roulette, I just wanted to comment on that.

Crow

it's my fav from descension and maybe my fav of both afterman discs, i dunno, domino is tough competition

go back to judging the championship roulette now :P

Parama:

Didn't even send anything.

-3.5/5

Domino is probably the best on either album. I like Sentry the Defiant, The Hard Sell and Gravity's Union.

senecadawg2

Last time I saw Coheed live, they were on tour with Thank You Scientist and the brass from the latter joined in for a special performance of Number City. Highlight of that show--really cool song.

Domino is great too, not sure how I'd rank that album. It's really consistent.

Crow

aww man, i saw Coheed w/ TYS & Cursive and we didn't get Number City at all, i think we got Sentry from Afterman instead which is great sure but not one of the best
