Any fans of these albums? What would be your killer one-disc version?

Love these albums. Saw them multiple times on this tour.

I actually have a 1 disc version of this already burned with nice running order. Comes in at a little over 71 minutes:

Don't Damn Me
Locomotive
Yesterdays
Double Talkin' Jive
The Garden
So Fine
14 Years
Breakdown
You Could Be Mine
Estranged
Dead Horse
Coma
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

I remember how big this was when it came out.  I'd karaoke the hell out of their early albums.  I'd have to think about a one disc version.  I'm sure I could do it, and some of the picks would be sophomoric due to nostalgia.

I definitely thought this was about one album's worth of good tunes spread across two albums.  The definition of excess.

But why not?  You only live once.

Both are great, but both could easily be trimmed down.

"My World" has no business being on part 2.

Both good albums, but they could easily make a great album picking the best songs of each Illusions.

Use Your Illusion I is my favorite Guns N Roses album. November Rain and Coma are two of the greatest hard rock songs ever written. Use Your Illusion II is great too but I feel it has a bit more filler.

I guess my controversial opinion is that I enjoy these more than AFD. Much more variety.

If you put the best songs from both discs onto one CD, it would blow Appetite out of the water.

I own a retail version that's a one disk combination of songs from I and II...

This is it:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Use_Your_Illusion

Not a perfect tracklist, but its definitely a good start, it has some glaring omissions though like no You Could Be Mine...

Anyway this was actually the first version of any of these songs that I owned, buying both full discs a couple years later.

Not even close.

Although there are certainly a few classic songs between the two UYI albums.

Yeah, AFD would crush even the best UYI compilation. AFD is probably the best debut album by any rock band, ever. Period.

I would take out Double Talkin' Jive and You Could Be Mine, and Civil War and November Rain would be in (though I get why one wouldn't put NR on there, but I like that song) but other than that, that's a solid list.   Nice job!

Haha, yeah I was trying to think of other great debuts when I posted that. LedZeppI came to mind, Boston did too... An argument can definitely be made for AFD though. Truly great album.

Van Halen I gives it some competition.

Eh, I could name dozens that are better.

In hard rock alone, the debuts of LZ, Boston and VH smack the shit out of Appetite.

UYI I is awful, II is really good IMO. You could take the few good tracks from I and replace them with the less than stellar tracks on II and make a perfect album. Estranged is probably the best song the band ever wrote.

Surprised it took that long for someone to mention this one. I couldn't decide between the two, but AFD and VH1 would be the two best debut hard rock albums ever. Hell, two of the best hard rock albums ever, debut or not.

I'd take the first Van Halen over Appetite without a second though. Maybe the first Boston too, definitely not the first LZ.

That's just your opinion. AFD is good but half of it is filler.  November Rain and Estranged are better than anything off AFD.

And that's just your opinion. November Rain is excellent, but that's only one song, and it's not a rocker, so it's not really comparable to anything from AFD anyway. Double albums like UYI are basically the definition of filler.

What a shocker someone called Prog Snob goes for the two longest songs, over the straight up rockers. :lol

It's such a shame because there is some incredible music on the UYIs. Things like Estranged, Locomotive, Breakdown...
As great as AFD is, UYI showed that they had it in them to be much more than that.

Oh, and Matt Sorum  is a beast on these albums!

What does it not being a rocker have to do with anything? A song is good regardless of what kind of song it is.

Coma is longer than the two of them, is it not? Notice I didn't pick the longest song, so your theory goes right out the window.  ;)

Oh yes, there's one song longer. My theory is entirely out of the window (more like an inch away from where it was).  :\

My point about not being a rocker just means it's an apples and oranges comparison imo.

I would not.

Consider the test of time theory in regards to radio play (which I am aware is not everything, but it's just interesting to note):

Where I work now, we listen to the radio all day, and usually a station that plays rock from the late 60s through current day.

AFD has three songs that still get played on the radio regularly, the three hits.  Mr. Brownstone gets the occasional play.

Boston's first album has eight songs that are ALL still played on the radio on a regular basis.

The first VH album still has five songs that get played to death (six if you count Eruption, which is often played along with You Really Got Me).

Now, the first LZ album probably only has three songs that still get played a lot, but I don't think anyone in their right mind is going to argue against the greatness that is Led Zeppelin I, right? ;)
