RIP George Martin (music producer)
« on: March 09, 2016, 08:19:26 AM »
Legendary producer famous for his work with the Beatles passed away today at 90. Well, at least, he lived long enough.

Rest in peace.

I think a lot of Game of Thrones fans will be very confused.

That said, RIP.

Didn't think of that. Edited the topic title, now it's clear.

RIP to the fifth Beatle.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

The father of all producers.

2016, taking all good people away from the world and giving power to those that aren't that good.

Sorry to change the subject a little, but: anyone in particular? Trump, maybe? I think I read a few days ago that he did very well last Tuesday.

People in politics and seats of power, generally. Not the place to talk about it.  :D

We should appreciate some of the things that wouldn't have happened without Martin, like Eleanor Rigby's string arrangement. How cool is that?

Probably the most important producer in the history of popular music.  It is never an overstatement to call him the 5th Beatle.

R.I.P.

Got it.
And about George Martin: I think the piano (turned into harpsichord) solo in "In My Life" is amazing! I don't think I would like the song as much without it.
To think that stuff as diverse as "Please Please Me", "Eleanor Rigby", "Within You Without You", and "I Want You" were all produced by the same person is amazing. I would assume he gave the guys in the band complete freedom to bring to the table whatever they wished, and then helped them perfect those ideas. I'm not sure, but nowadays most producers in pop/rock music seem to have a different role.

Not to diminish the song-writing talents of Lennon and McCartney, but George Martin elevated their pop tunes into the realm of art music.  I can't help but think that's why they quit doing concerts... they graduated from being "performers" to being recording artists.
