No. The story just didn't grab me. Everything about the production was no doubt bombastic, but I was far from impressed with the storyline, and to me, story is everything. I've long removed myself from caring how much a movie spends on special effects. That sort of superficiality doesn't impress me anymore.

The opening part is the sequence where Buzz is on a mission and it eventually turns out to be a video game right? If so, yeah I loved that.

Not at all. Toy Story 2 is better than the first one. There are a few movies that have better sequels. Short Circuit 2, Clerks 2, and Austin Powers - The Spy who Shagged Me come to mind.

Sequel to what?

It is certainly the second in the group of "Cornetto" films, but it isn't a sequel. It isn't a continuation of any prior story, no characters continued over from a prior film, etch.

It's not a sequel.

If the film makers say it is, then they are either joking or they are full of shit. It's no more a sequel than it is a horse.

And references to a bunch of other characters. They were all (obviously not things like Jersey Girl) set in the same universe.

Not at all since many consider it a better movie. I seem to be the one in the minority that considers it a completely unnecessary movie and not as good as TS1. Even with TS3 everyone lost their shit but it was a pretty boring movie and suffered from typical Pixar manufacturered emotion.

It is because Toy Story 2 is broadly considered the weakest of the trilogy. Personally, i think isn't better than the original but it's still great nonetheless.

I loved the second one. Seeing Buzz meet the other Buzzes was awesome, and I thought it was really cool to see Woody's background. Seeing the contrast in his value between the fat guy and Andy was great. And let's be real, Woody needed a horse. If anything, I think the third is the weakest.

I also don't think it's controversial to say that a 4th one is totally not needed.
