Redemption Survivor - Results and Discussion
« on: March 07, 2016, 01:17:40 PM »
Let's go!

I am glad that you are joining me for the Redemption survivor, over the course of which we will crown the best track from each album, and the best song in the band's discography.

Two songs from each album will make the finals and the runner up will enter the consolation, from which another two songs shall emerge to join the finals for a grand total of 14 songs in the finals.

As Nick van Dyk himself has clarified, Desperation from the s/t is one song and will be treated as such in the survivor, while the title track on TFOT is actually four seperate songs.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them. Either way, happy voting!

I wish I was able to participate in this, but I won't be checking their discography until my roulette is finished.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

As Nick van Dyk himself has clarified, both Desperation from the debut and The Fullness of Time are one song and will be treated as such in this survivor.

?

TFOT is four songs.

Desperation is one song in four parts but could be separated if anybody cares.
Only a prog fan would try to measure how much they enjoy a song by an equation. :lol

Not to be a buttinsky but the bigger issue is that TFOT should be considered four songs rather than one big one.

That said, enjoy! I'll be interested in seeing what comes out in second place. ;)

Two observations at this juncture (on the eve of determining what's in second place for Fullness):

1. We have a small, but dedicated, fan base and I personally (and the band as well) are VERY thankful for your passionate interest and support!

2. I guess we can drop Nocturnal from the setlist! ;)  It's a shame as everything else takes many days to rehearse but that song is relatively simple in the context of our catalog. Oh well -- no rest for the weary! :)

Mr. Scorpion, you have my personal appreciation for undertaking this.

Man, it takes a healthy artistic attitude to check in on a poll where Internet forum types rate your songs... especially by the "pick your least favorite" method. (I mean, we're obviously choosing from among pearls here, but still!) Maybe that's why listening to Redemption always puts me in a good mood. :)

And that's a wrap! Memory wins the survivor, and that's a result that I'm pretty happy with, because it's my favourite Redemption song, so there's something that DTF didn't screw up. :tup

Thanks everyone for voting in the survivor!

Yeah, this was fun.  General consensus in the end -- I don't think anyone's gonna quibble much with the top 5 -- but a surprising range of opinions throughout, even for a relatively small sample size.  I think that's the mark of a strong oeuvre.
