Here we are, the first of four albums led by the band's drummer and then-new vocalist, Nick D'Virgilio. Yes, SB pulled a Genesis after their 6th album, also a double-disc concept album set in New York...the parallels are striking, but the music is definitely quite different! Whereas Genesis sort of eased into their pop-rock tendencies, once Neal left SB, the band tried a lot to put out something that was fresh, but also divided their fanbase. They would eventually return to form, but not without experimenting with new sounds first!
For me, this is the bottom-tier NDV album, and a bottom-tier SB album in general, but it's got some redeeming tracks on it, which I hope to see end up in the Top 3! As for my first vote, though, I believe I will be going with the title track. It's got an interesting feel (har har), but it's pretty average compared to the rest of the album.
