Iron Maiden Survivor 2016 - Piece of Mind - Round 1
« on: March 01, 2016, 12:58:47 PM »

Piece of Mind (1983)
1.
2.

3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.

With the departure of Clive Burr and resulting arrival of Nicko McBrain, in 1983, Iron Maiden's classic lineup was set. This lineup would remain together for the next 7 years and 4 albums. Piece of Mind was a worthy follow-up to The Number of the Beast, nearly equalling it in classic status. Though it is generally agreed to have a dud or two, and no song as legendary as Hallowed Be Thy Name, Piece of Mind generated several fan favorites, including a live staple in The Trooper.

____________

I think pretty much everybody is going to be voting the same way in the first round here. Because even in a time when dinosaurs walked the earth, this song would have been pretty mediocre.

In a time when dinosaurs walked the earth.... that lyric alone is worth this vote.  Enjoyable song though, but easily the worst of the bunch.

Gotta be Quest for Fire.

No no, you have to vote for your least fav.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

Quest for Fire and it's not even close.
people on this board are actual music fans who developed taste in music and not casual listeners who are following current fashion trends and listening to only current commercial hits.

:lol

been listening to this a lot lately, what a fucking class album.  QFF and SAS the clear weakest, but it'd be interesting to see what the general consensus is on the other tracks, which are all #1 in my eyes.

The riff after 'make it all EEEEEEENNNNND' in TTAL is so killer, probably the hardest Maiden riff to play correctly.  Oh, and the riff leading into the solos in Still Life.

One of my favourite Iron Maiden albums - there are a lot of classics on there. I had to vote for Quest For Fire, but it does at least have some comedy value.

Controversially (or not), I'm not really a fan of TTAL. For me, it's one of my least favourite epics of theirs.

Still Life is the hidden gem of the album for me.

That's fair enough.  It would be my vote after the two obvious ones.

Quest for Fire

I saw the first post with Revelations vote in the thread and thought this will be a disaster. Thankfully the results are proving me wrong. :lol
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

It's a pity however that the album with lesser songs will have fewer consolation slots as well. Piece of Mind, Powerslave and Seventh Son will advance 3 songs in total and No Prayer for the Dying 4... can't we give special slots to the classic albums?  ;D
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

I understand the inclination to give special slots to the "classic" albums, but I don't think it's fair to give a preference to some albums over others based on subjective criteria. If enough people want to open up the consolations round to two songs per album, period, I'm willing to consider that. It might actually be a pretty good idea, the only downside is that it makes consolations longer, but I don't think anyone really minds that.

Well, I guess that in the end, the "classic leftovers" from the consolations will contend the slots for the finals anyway, so probably it won't make that big of a difference...

I doubt it makes a difference either although I don't care if we do 2 per album, more work for 425 though  :lol
