11.22.63
« on: February 16, 2016, 11:53:33 AM »
Did anyone else catch the premiere episode yesterday?

I thought it was pretty good, although I'm not sold on Franco as an actor.  We'll see how it goes.

The set design is awesome.

I've thought about registering for HuLu just for this show. My Father in Law said the book is great.

I wonder how much a Hulu subscription is? I guess I better check when I get home.

I loved the book!

$8 with commercials and $12 for commercial free.

I watched this show last night (fell asleep with 10 minutes left in the second episode). I'm really enjoying it. Pretty cool concept and I'm a Franco fan. It's nice seeing him in a serious role.

I'll probably acquire it once it's all wrapped up. How quickly are they releasing it?

Also, I recall that those assholes screwed up traffic down here terribly for 3 or 4 days. You can't shut down 5 streets in downtown during business hours without really fucking things up. Not sure why they couldn't film on weekends or something. Seemed rather selfish to me.

:lol  If it is any consolation, it isn't remotely the first time something like that has been done.  When I was in law school and interning at the Dept. of Corporations in downtown L.A., they had a few blocks near my office cordoned off for filming an episode of 24.

I watched the first episode yesterday and found it interesting though Franco's acting is not convincing me yet. I'll keep watching and see how it goes

I'm going to sign up for the free Hulu+ (do they still call the paid version that?) trial (if there still is one) once the whole series is out. I really enjoyed the book, so I'm looking forward to seeing this.

Yeah, so I'm watching it and liking it so far. 11/22/63 is one of my favorite King books and the adaptation has been good so far, though I don't understand why they changed where Harry grew up. I get maybe not having the rights to the name Derry, Maine since there's a new It adaptation, but don't understand why take it out of Maine completely.

Anyway, extremely minor nitpick on my part.

James Franco is a decent actor, but his acting reminds me of a youtuber who when yelling, will do it in such a way as if to not wake the person sleeping in the other room. Make sense?

Anyway, I've liked what I've seen so far. I love time travel.

It wouldn't have anything to do with IT.  The rights to film the book include the rights to film the entire book.  The decision to change it from Derry to Holden was an entirely creative one, but I'm not sure yet of the reason.

I feel like people who write screenplays based on books change things just to justify their jobs. If they changed nothing, why were they even there? It seems like they often change things just for the sake of changing things.

Yep.  I'm still trying to figure out the reasoning for some of the changes from the novel, but it's working so far for the most part.

I will watch the finale this weekend.  I'm happily surprised I've been enjoying it as much as I have.  Typically nothing comes close to the brilliance of King's books.  I'm not huge fan of Franco but he's done a fairly decent job of it.  I rate it 7.5 out of 10 stars.

Is this after the new Steven King book? (read the rest of the thread - yes, it clearly is) - My middle boy read it and said it was good. He's reading the Dark Tower series now and wishes it would be made into a movie but I explained it would be about a year long if they did. :lol

I'll have to let him know about this so he can check it out later this summer.

11.22.63 isn't a "new" Stephen King novel - it was published in 2011, if memory serves.

And filming is currently underway on The Dark Tower.

Ok so I watched the show, and it was good overall. But it was basically just the plot of the Red Dwarf episode Tikka to Ride, so it was just slightly hard to take seriously, and almost disappointing that the ending was so similar. :lol

LOVED the book, but my wife and I couldn't make it through the first episode. I feel like they butchered the story and the casting was terrible.
