Patriots offered Collins $11/year, and he wanted Von Miller money; upwards of $19. Now he's a fucking Brown.  :lol

Honestly, I suspect there's more to it, though. There's very little upside to the deal. The 3rd rounder is conditional, and might wind up being the same 4th round compensatory pick they'd get if he left in FA. All they're getting is the shot at it being a slightly better pick and rid of him. The second part was probably more important.

And Kev's point about sending a message to the D is very sound. The Jimmy Johnson method.
Argument, the presentation of reasonable views, never makes headway against conviction, and conviction takes no part in argument because it knows.

Purple Reign?   :rollin They got jinxed.

2000 Ravens went a month without scoring a TD and lost 3 games in a row.

Not saying that the Vikings are the 2000 Ravens, but they're still in decent shape. They've just got to keep Bradford upright and healthy.

Also he's not following direction as well.  Now he is in football Siberia.

In my opinion?  the "Cleveland" part of that trade is not random.  Meaning, they didn't send him to Minnesota, or Dallas, or anywhere where he might be able to skate on by.   Similar thing happened to LeGarrett Blount (though Pitt isn't "Football Siberia"), where he saw how the other three quarters live, and came back humble, and ready to work.  Now he's one of the best backs in the league on one of the best teams in the league.

The Pats will be fine without him.

Well, they also have a history of trading with the Browns while others are not willing to trade with the Pats for obvious reasons.

Hey, as a fan I'm shocked but I'll assume there is multiple variables that caused them to pull the trigger on this trade mid season.

There were numerous reasons that Blount didn't work out in Pittsburgh, mainly getting high while driving and leaving the field early before a game finished because he was throwing a hissy-fit. That being said Tomlin is WAY more of a "players coach" than Billy boy who strikes me as much more a disciplinarian.

Hey, as a fan I'm shocked but I'll assume there is multiple variables that caused them to pull the trigger on this trade mid season.

As someone who is far from a Pats fan, my first thought was in a trade between the Browns and the Pats, there's literally no way the Pats lost out on the deal. One franchise is the best at this sort of thing and one is easily the worst.

Haha, is there a connection there?  Are the Browns 0-8 because they deal with the Pats?  :)

You know any team in contention will not trade to them.  Plus, trades are rare compared to other leagues.

Me too, consider Brady got special treatment for the bulk of his career. The shit NE had to go through with deflategate was, at a minimum, just making up for lost time.

You say that like it's a bad thing.  Belichick being such a disciplinarian is a large reason why the Patriots are top contenders every year, and Tomlin being too much of a players coach is a reason why they seem to underachieve more often than not lately.

Not a bad thing at all. Actually even as a life-long Steelers fan, I completely agree with your assessment.

Once again, I wasn't trying to say Belichick's approach is a bad thing. Take the specific example we were talking about, Blount. The Steelers couldn't make it work with the guy, he goes back to NE and is doing great. Not that the Steelers really need a running back, that's one thing they actually have.  :lol

No worries, just wanted to make sure I was understood, it's rare for me to give props to the Pats and not the Steelers

For sure, but that was pretty hard to plan for. When you have Bell and Williams as your 1-2 running backs it's rare that you would be in that situation. Also, it would have been hard for them to pretty much have 3 potential starters on the roster, that would be a lot tied up in one position.

That was a season prior to them having Williams. He was still with Carolina when they had Blount.

Post-Week 8 Power Rankings
1. New England - offense looks dominant, but will this be another season where the D lets them down?
2. Dallas - could be the class of the NFC with a rookie QB and RB
3. Kansas City - the best team nobody is talking about
4. Denver - the four games against Oakland and KC will tell us how good they really are this year
5. Atlanta - huge win over a GB team that suddenly found its offense
6. Minnesota - went from looking like the best team in the NFC to a mess
7. Oakland - big test against the Broncos this week
8. Seattle - Russell Wilson's injury has killed their offense, since he cannot move around now to make up for their terrible O-line
9. Philadelphia - tough loss in a game they controlled for most of the second half
10. Houston - makes me ill to put them in the top 10, but had a nice bounce back win against a Lions team that had been playing really well

Trending Up:

Miami - on the way to 7-9 again
NY Jets - nowhere to go but up following that 1-5 start
Tennessee - have gotten themselves to 4-4

Trending Down:

Jacksonville - how Gus Bradley is still a head coach in this league is beyond me
Buffalo - predictable stumble after an unpredictable winning streak
Los Angeles - no division opponents any time soon, so wins will be hard to come by

MVP contenders:

1. Derek Carr
2. Matt Ryan
3. Tom Brady
4. Dak Prescott
5. Von Miller
