Hmmm......I remember now that you banned anything Magnus Karlsson related Ruslan.......that's like a quarter of my collection.

He doesn't like growls either.............there goes the other 70%  :lol

I've set my phone not to display the pics when I browse forums, so I saw this only now. :lol

Anyway, I've sorted through all my PMs now, answered the questions and accepted / rejected all the songs. One participant had to resent, others are fine. If your nickname is italicized in the second post, you're fine, your song is in and you can just wait for the results.

Chad, I don't know if it was sarcastic, but green bolded artists are the ones I currently love the most (some of them may change over the years but most are there to stay), and the simply bolded artists are the ones that I love too, but not as much as the coloured ones. :lol Just thought I should make some distinction since while I love Star One, I don't love it as much as Ayreon.

I figured as much, but yust wanted to leave no misunderstanding out there.

jk... it's a toss up.  Ayreon has higher highs, but lower lows.  Star One only has a couple of duds.  I'd rank Ayreon>Star One, but only marginally.

and I think I know who I'm gonna rock-block.  No sense in trying to make it Brent - it would take at least a dozen of us to block him, and even then I think his inventory is like Mary Poppins' bag.

Alright, so all non-invited participants are in, and while the deadline to sign up for playing is until Saturday evening, I'm starting my first listen right now. If someone else will sign up in the remaining few days, I'll ensure their song gets the same amount of listens, but I decided to start listening now so we won't have those huge delays between rounds. Some invited participants have also decided to send their songs.

I know the "first impressions / tidbits" part have become quite popular in the recent roulettes, and it may be getting a little stale, but since I like to think it was me who employed it a year ago first in a long time I'm going to do these in this roulette too. However, I'm going to post only a few ones instead of one for each song and I'll try to make them as juicy as possible.

Anyway, before I even start the first listen, here are some fun facts about this round for you:
  • Two players sent the same song, were asked to resend because I've already heard that one, so they did and once again they've sent the same song.
  • Two players picked the bands from "received it in my first roulette and wasn't too fond of" list.
  • Two invited participants sent their songs from preliminary round, but one of them was unaware he doesn't necessarily have to send a song, so he took his song back intending to use it later.
  • Five songs out of ten are either really close to or over 8 minutes in length.

This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

Well, all songs are from the same band, so maybe those are just the best two songs this band has.

I'm also going to put some lyrics from the songs I've received in the current round in the title. If you know the lyric line, you might be able to guess what some people have sent. (If you Google it, you suck. :lol ) Of course, when I post the results, the title will reflect that quite clearly.

So I just went through the first listen, and, well, some songs are surely the growers and everything can change in the next few days, but for now...

One person has nothing to worry about at all, fantastic song, grabbed me from the first listen and he's almost certainly in, straight to the main competition too. I enjoyed that song a lot and I can see it growing on me even more on the subsequent listens. I don't think this will change, it seems just the type of song I love, with all the right vocals and instruments.

Overall, it's a fantastic round so far. I like all the songs, and most of them I like a lot, and even the ones that didn't much clicked with me on the first listen are promising. I think, besides the obvious stand-out - and don't forget these are my first impressions only - there are four songs I loved that can turn to a free pass to the main competition too. I think it's safe to say you guys blew it out of the park.

I think there were no real duds this round, I liked every song more or less. Very strong entries from all of you guys, and let's see what grows on me and what doesn't. I'll fire up the tidbits Saturday evening when the deadline ends, and I'm hoping to listen a few more times to your songs until then. Just remember, there are ten people hoping to get four free spots. I've got to eliminate some of you. Be prepared for that. :P

However, if you still haven't signed up and want to try your luck in this roulette, it's still not too late. I'll accept the sign-ups and the songs for the first preliminary round till Saturday evening (~45 hours from now on).
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

Bird of Sorrow is the new trend.

Yeah, though now it's been overused. I had my fun for around four or five roulettes but I'm never sending it again.

It was the same with Song for a Dead Friend. I got that one in my first roulette and wanted to share it with everyone. But after scoring really high with the same song a few times, it lost its appeal. If roulettes are all about introducing new stuff, it doesn't make so much sense to keep submitting the same song once it's already established a reputation.

Well, I keep sending my trademark songs even after they get a high score after a few times. Thankfully no one else sends those, so why the hell not. I mean, it's still a new stuff for the host.

I'm willing to send the same song if I think the person will like it, but pretty much none of my trademark roulette stuff is Evermind material so I'm probably mixing it up this time IF I get in.

Regardless, it seems likely you at least liked what you heard so far and that seems like an accomplishment to me with a band like this already, no regrets.

No, I've got a lot of good music. I would've noticed.

What kind of band is Converge, anyway? Shoecore-mathgaze-dubstep-samplefronted-growly hiphop?

(I might have got some of those genres wrong.)

i don't name the genres, i just repeat names others have given them

i think it's suppose to related to the overly technical nature of the music tho, also bcuz it's heavy as hell
