Never went out and brought any of their albums but they are a top band.  I'd always turn them up if I heard them.  They are very talented musicians too IMO, they have a great jazzy style.  Their version of I Will Survive was just fucking gold.

The Distance and Shirt Skirt, Long Jacket are amazing songs too.

Any other song recommendations from these guys?

Seeing as how I just got into them (but have known about them for years) I'd reccomend the song 'Never There' which is 1 of the biggest hits.

All I know about Cake is a few years ago, I was watching VH1 late at night and the video for "No Phone" came on. The monotonous way he repeated "No, phone...No, phone..." pissed me off, and I changed the channel.

These guys did a cover of I Will Survive?  That was good.  Reminds me of listening to student radio when I was like 5.

I loved this band back in the day. Fashion Nugget is an awesome album. Are they still around? I think I have their first three album, but can't say I'm aware of any more.

I love Cake so much.  Fashion Nugget is still one of my favorite albums of all time.  You can sing along to this album all the way through.

Another one I highly recommend is Prolonging the Magic.
If anyone in this thread judge him; heyy James WTF? about you in Awake In Japan? Then I will say; WTF about you silly?

I only have Fashion Nugget, but I really enjoy that album. Italian Leather Sofa and She'll Come Back To Me are my two personal favourites. So good.
I felt its length in quite a few places.

I remember "Going the Distance" from a few years back.  It was a fun song.  What really got me more into Cake was discovering that the theme from the TV show Chuck is taken from a song by Cake called "Short Skirt, Long Jacket" which prompted me to check out a few Cake albums.  They're funny, clever, and original-sounding, but the deadpan delivery of the spoken-word parts eventually becomes a bit boring, even if it's part of the initial allure.

They're still pretty cool, but I can't play them over and over as I can with most bands I like.  To me, they're more in the Comedy/Novelty vein.  Good stuff, but in smaller doses only.

Their 6th album is ready to be released next year, their first since Pressure Chief in 2004

Just discovering Short Skirt, Long Jacket since a couple of guys in the band want to do it for an upcoming gig in May.  LOVE this song!

That's a fantastic song.  :metal

Good band, I love a lot of their songs, Fashion nugget and Comfort eagle have plenty of gems. Along with They Might Be Giants, they are my go-to band when I want to hear something witty and clever.

We worked on this one and a few other new ones at band practice last night.  First time through, the guys were like, "Wow, [Bosk], that was pretty good considering you only listened to the song twice!"  I was like, "um...think about the vocal lines in this song for a second.  It really shouldn't be that impressive.  :lol  Now if you want to react that way about China Grove or Long Train Running, I can understand."

If I might suggest something regarding singing some Cake stuff - pay attention to whenever the singer is late with singing certain words. The second time he sings (or says) "long jacket", the word "jacket" comes in when the rest of the band is already in the sing-along chorus. It's one of the fun details regarding his performances, so cool and original.

Some 4 years ago I came across a cheap Prolonging The Magic copy in a local record store. Like, really cheap - less than a dollar.
Of course I bought it, and I enjoyed it a lot. I already knew "Sheep Go To Heaven" (from its video) and "Hem Of Your Garment" (from the Me, Myself & Irene movie), but "Let Me Go" and "Alpha Beta Parking Lot" quickly became my favourites. So fun to play on guitar.

I liked the sound of the band, and quickly became interested in any new music they would release next. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened yet.
