Best Overture

Go on then - take your pick. I think there is probably a clear and obvious winner but I'm interested to see where DO ranks among the other two.

Overture 1928 might be my favourite instrumental of all time.

SDOIT Overture. I love the orchestral arrangement and performance from all members, how insanely melodic it is, and how perfectly it introduces the themes of the song.

Overture 1928 is also amazing, and a kickass start to a perfect album.

Dystopian Overture is also awesome, with so many different sounds, from slow and gothic, to upbeat choir.

These are all great choices.

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

For now I'll go with Overture 1928, but maybe with time Dystopian Overture will grow on me.

All three Overtures serve their purpouse in relation to the album / suite they open up, but obviously you can hardly top something that makes you singalong the Metropolis theme... so Overture 1928 wins.
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

At 1:35 when that Metropolis guitar lead comes in, that is anthemic as hell.

1928 for sure.

Though I really like Dystopian Overture, moreso than the SDOIT Overture.

They are all great, though I think its too early for me to rank TA. For now it will be 1928, but it might actually change in a couple of weeks.

Too soon. I like to give the new songs plenty of time to season before I play the ranking game.

I went with the SDoIT Overture but really all three are amazing.

1928 is really cool, but I like the grand feel of the SDoIT overture more, so I voted that. Dystopian Overture doesn't really flow as well as the other two.

This is tough for me because I love them all, but I went with 1928 edging the others out.

1928 for me.

They were already my favorite band before SFAM, but hearing that opening groove with the full band in Overture 1928 the for the first time in my car at full volume driving away from the music store was one of the most Auralorgasmic moments I've ever had with DT, let alone any other band.

At that moment I became a life long fan.

Dystopian Overture is by far the more versatile overture DT have ever done.

1928 is the best one. Dystopian is the second best one, since I really don't like Overture, and think it's a bit too long for the whole song.

1. Dystopian Overture
2. Overture 1928
3. 2285 (guess we aren't including this one for some reason)
4. Overture from SDOIT

Overture 1928 is terrific. 3:16-3:25 is easily one of my top 3 favorite musical moments ever, from any band or any song. The whole thing just screams "perfect introduction", so I'll go with that.

3. 2285 (guess we aren't including this one for some reason)

Because it's not the same type of song the other 3 are. Those Overtures introduce the main themes of the rest of the album/song, while 2285 is a summation of Act I's themes and don't introduce anything new

Also, it's not an overture, which makes it not qualified to be an option for "best overture".

Dystopian Overture all the way!  So many dynamics and it covers the many different themes of the album very well. Not to mention the engineering/production is crazy good!! One of my fav tracks on TA.. :metal

6DOIT is my favorite DT album, but Dystopian Overture was my pick. That being said, all of them are fantastic.

Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are God.” — Christopher Hitchens
