« on: May 04, 2009, 05:52:50 PM »
I know im probably a bit late, but i didn't see a thread about this album on the new forum..
I can't believe how awsome this album is! I've never really been into Mastodon, but this album totally blew me away!
It's about to become one of my favorite albums of all time!
Appreciate!  :metal

One of the best albums I've heard in a long time. Everything about it is right. The album cover fits the colorful music perfectly. Mastodon have outdone themselves big time. A very important album for the 00's, and important for the future of concept albums.

Love this record. Bought it after all the chatter about it, and really was glad I did. My wife got hooked on it too.

Boring and stale riffs completely devoid of any emotion whatsoever combined with some of the most lifeless vocals ever. Definitely most overrated album of 2009. So no, I don't like it. But whatever floats your boat.

As for the album? Love it. The title track came on my player as I scrolled by the thread,
so I figured I'd drop by and spread some love. One of the best records on the last decade for sure.

Good man.  Crack the Skye has become one of my favorite albums ever since I bought it.  Absolute perfect album.

EDIT: wow, I tried to post this and got ninja'd by someone, but didn't know because after I hit post I immediately left my computer to go to class.  Then I saw that, as usual, Seventh Son fails completely in being able to identify a masterpiece when he hears one.

I didn't know boring, tame and dull riffs made a masterpiece. Shouldn't be too hard to make one in that case.

I really don't see how the riffs match any of those descriptions.  I can understand not liking the vocals.  But man, those riffs are so creative, groovy, heavy, and unadulterated awesome.

They're certainly heavy, but that's where the agreements end. A lot of bands have heavy riffs, doesn't stop them from sucking (Just ask Pantera :p ). Creative?  :lol To me it sounds like they came up with them in 5 minutes and threw them into the studio and said "done". Groovy? Eh, I guess but they don't really make me want to groove. All they do is make me reach for my pillow. Unadulterated awesome? Sorry but  :lol

Yeah, they definitely came up with all those riffs in just five minutes and threw them together with no thought to composition at all.  That is totally what happened in all those months of work.

Listening to the album again.  "The Last Baron" at 8:19 continues to floor me.  I might make a list of all my favorite moments on this album if I get any more outraged or bored.
