Do you like them? Awesome.

I originally sent this song in Parama's roulette not thinking much about it but surprisingly he gave it a 9.5 so I started giving it more listens and I love the whole album now.

Also, I wonder who sent Buzzcut Season :neverusethis: great song though!

i'd still stand by that 9.5, probably my favorite on the album but it's a pretty solid album as a whole

Just a heads up guys, due to the more... subtle nature of the songs this time I'm gonna need a bit more time to fairly judge them.

On the plus side I am on vacation next week so I should be able to get through the following round fairly quickly.

I thought that was pretty obvious after checking the last.fm  :lol also pretty sure who sent Plini and who sent Ulver.

Mine is obviously the CHON song.

5 - Ludovico Einaudi - Night - senecadawg2

Excellent. This is really the kind of thing I was hoping for this round. Musically different though they may be the tone and mood of this song really put me in the same mindset as the examples I gave. Really enjoyed it.

4 - Lorde - Buzzcut Season - Parama

I'll admit I was a little surprised to see the choice of artist, and somewhat apprehensive, too. Pop music is not usually something I go in for. However I was pleasantly surprised by this song, definitely an enjoyable listen.

4 - Silverchair - Across the Night - Fluffy Lothario

This was a cool tune, very mellow in terms of instrumentation and I enjoyed the vocals as well... as usual not a lot to say.

4 - Massive Attack - Angel - Scorpion

So probably like a lot of people I am familiar with Massive Attack through the theme song for House. I got a similar vibe in some respects from this song, though it is quite distinct as well. Definitely an enjoyable experience and an example of what I consider 'chill' that maybe doesn't jive with the normal point of view... that slowly building intensity works for me.

4 - Mountain - Nantucket Sleighride - Stadler

The only Mountain song I had heard prior to this was Mississippi Queen, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. This one definitely went in more of a 70s stoner interpretation of chill, I thought, but that still works for me. Quite enjoyable.

3 - CHON - Can't Wait - Train of Naught

Based on your comments I think maybe mentioning Deep Peace threw you off a little. Was not at all expecting the kind of technical shreddy stuff that came into this song really early... It works for me in Deep Peace because it has so long to build up to it, I guess? I'm not sure. Had its moments but not exactly what I was looking for, theme wise.

3 - Plini - Opening - Sir Walrus Cauliflower

Not too surprising since you tried to send in the same song as Train of Naught that I have roughly the same reaction to it. More shreddy and technical than I was really hoping for this round, but otherwise a pretty solid track.

3 - Ulver - EOS - Sacul

So in sort of a 360 from the previous two entries, this song definitely nailed it in terms of the theme, but left me a little dissatisfied in terms of the song itself. Certainly chill, but ultimately not a song I was all that into, likely would have fared worse if it was sent in on a round that wasn't themed.

3 - Bright Eyes - Nothing Gets Crossed Out - Ultimetalhead

Unfortunately we get sort of the same result as Sacul's entry, here, in that it definitely nailed it in terms of being chill, but wasn't really my style when it came to the song itself. In particular I guess I wasn't really thrilled with the vocal performance.

2 - Sleep Party People - Change in Time - Shadow Ninja 2.0

This song didn't really do it for me, unfortunately. The strange instrumentation and vocal style sort of put me off balance in a way that doesn't make me feel 'chill'.

Standings:
Sacul - 16
Train of Naught - 15
Sir Walrus Cauliflower - 14
Scorpion - 15
Fluffy Lothario - 14
Ultimetalhead - 13
Senecadawg2 - 13
Parama - 12
Stadler - 12
Shadow Ninja 2.0 - 11

So, as mentioned before the theme for round 5 is open! Based on how I've reacted to your choices so far, and the fact that my last.fm should now be reflecting what I have been listening to, hopefully you'll have something great to share!

As a side note, I should have mentioned this earlier but please, if you are sending me a Youtube link because you're not sure if the song is available on Spotify, please include the name of the artist and song so I can look it up on Spotify without having to go to Youtube first.

Finally I'm not the only one who doesn't "get" EOS, what's so amazing about it anyway? It's chill as fuck and a bit trippy but I don't get anything else out of it.

I guess I got carried away with the CHON song a bit, it's a very unusual type of "relaxing" music, but it wors for me so what the hell, and I'm still in second place so I'll try to nail the open round. Will send tomorrow.

The atmosphere is fantastic, but what I love most is the emotion - it's quite a moving piece, and gives me chills every time I listen to it.

Well, I'll take a 3. I suppose it wasn't the "chill" you wanted, I just sent it because that's the vibe I get. I guess more of the mood is very relaxed to me. Idk. I'll send my song tonight or in the morning.

Fair enough, I'm planning on giving it another try anyways because it sounds fantastic the way people describe it.

Same here with my song (apparently from reading the writeups you originally sent the same CHON song?), but I'll take the 3, it's still solid.

Sent some  :metal I actually really liked the themed rounds because we had our music narrowed down a bit to make it easier to pick, since I don't know you all that well. I just end up sending prog metal in all the open rounds  :lol

Is there a time limit on our submissions? I wanna send something by a certain artist, but most of their great stuff is in the 8-12 minute range, at least.

Oh, and is something from a live album okay?

Less of a limit than a guideline but I don't really want anything much longer than ten minutes?

As far as live, that's risky. For one I want to be able to find it on Spotify for ease of listening, secondly, production really impacts my enjoyment of a song. So if that is one damn clear and clean live recording that I can find on Spotify, great.

Yeah, I did. I actually prefer the open rounds, but I can see where you're coming from. It's just that I have stuff that I really want to send, and usually the themes restrict me form sending the the stuff I want to most.

yeah, whenever it is i do my second roulette i'm probably going to have themed rounds but make adhering to the theme only like worth a half point, so if you wanted to choose between a 7.5 song fitting the theme and a 9.5 song not fitting the theme the choice would be pretty easy
