awesome, i'm pretty much 100% out of the finals now  :tup

(i'm aware that i'm only 1.25 points behind 5th place rn tho but that's a lot in this roulette, even if i'm getting a 4.5 with this song unless sacul sucks (which he does) or someone else beat me to it)

I guess I still don't get your tastes or your roulette. Half the submissions were by your own request and yet you didn't seem to like many of those submissions anyways

It's just odd that you seem to take so much pleasure in making these lists and yet, at the same time, seemingly little pleasure in listening to many of the bands you put on the list. Or am I misunderstanding?

I guess I still don't get your tastes or your roulette. Half the submissions were by your own request and yet you didn't seem to like many of those submissions anyways
Did I actually ask, and for that many submissions? I only recall suggesting that you could send Divenire or Bird of Sorrow since by other hosts' descriptions they seemed up my alley, and kinda trying to help you in a subtle way I guess - oh and Parama's The Angelic Process tune, but just out of curiosity since ToN and the Bizkit didn't seem to enjoy it just to see how it'd score :P

Fluffy summed my tastes up very well quite early on the game.

It's just odd that you seem to take so much pleasure in making these lists and yet, at the same time, seemingly little pleasure in listening to many of the bands you put on the list. Or am I misunderstanding?
I don't understand this - is it because of my scores on the list? It's just a reflection of how much I enjoy such albums, really - I've explored many of the bands I discovered there and enjoyed their stuff a lot.

it's more stuff that he wants to look into not knowing whether or not he'll enjoy it than music he knows he'll like in general
Definitely this - I even added lots of albums I know it's pretty probable I won't like just out of curiosity either for their "cult" status or something else.

i'd have sent something off the album you had on your list since i think it's a better album as a whole, except there's three songs and two of them are over 10 minutes, and the third is the weakest (still great tho)

plus, this is the band's best song anyways

1.5/5 hated it

I don't know who sent Arc of Space, but I love them for it.

Hi.

in my heart I reach you

 :heart

Oh well. I tried, Sacul, I really tried, but I don't think I hit the mark that often. At least I got you to like Midnight pretty well—that's victory enough for me. At this point it doesn't really matter what I send and I have no idea what to send anyway. Maybe I'll just send Light of Day, Day of Darkness.

Now, see, what do you prefer: high-pitched vocals or growls?
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

Growls.

On a side note, looks like this was indeed the weakest round so far  :corn

I guess I still don't get your tastes or your roulette. Half the submissions were by your own request and yet you didn't seem to like many of those submissions anyways

That's not what I meant. I was talking about your list in general and half of our submissions needing to come from that list and many of those submissions seeming to miss the mark (i.e. why put them on the list in the first place?)

Parama's explanation makes sense, I guess, it's just interesting--you giving us a list of albums you think you might be interested in and then having us send songs from those albums. Almost like you're spending more time finding music that you might be interested in than you are in actually listening to that music... And generally speaking I think my submissions outside of the 5 pre-approved albums from your list tended to score just as high if not higher than my submissions from the list. I guess that's what confused me.

I don't know if that makes any sense though, so I'll stop.

i will admit that i am baffled how sacul can have such a huge to-listen list. i haven't had much of one lately myself since i'm too busy buying music to find new stuff, but even at its worst my list was only like 50ish albums long

I came up with this send-from-list idea to kind of limit a bit the amount of albums I'd have to add to it - the list was already too big before this even started. Having people send only and only from the list wouldn't have made sense and probably pissed off everyone. This also serves me as a way to organize in what order I'll listen to some of the albums on it - instead of randomly choosing them, let folks at DTF help me make some killer combinations (just look at those in the "listening organised" page of the list). Having listened to aprox. 147 if the list albums so far, I wouldn't say I don't spend time listening to them.

But in my v3 in 2 years or so there ain't gonna be list-only entries :P

It has gotten out of hand I confess :lol - but I plan to put an absolute limit on 2k, and before reaching that, only adding albums from which I already know a song or two and sounds worth getting.

But this last week I've been purging it - going album through album to see if it's too obscure to even bother trying to find it. Most of those have been either trip-hop or japanese records  ;D

Alright, didn't send this one. But I did send a long prog song, if only to remind you for a constant 16 minutes and 19 seconds (don't anyone bother looking that up, it's a live version from YouTube so I'm sure it's different in length) that I'm still in this roulette.

Don't worry, it's probably the 'worst' song I sent anyway (at least in terms of how accessible it is). How it got more points than Seventh Wonder though, I will never know.

I'm not convinced on the guitar sound production - sounds quite weak and doesn't have the best sound to it.

THERE'S NO GUITAR :lol

Anyway I did mediocre but apparently that's not bad for this round, so I'm okay with it.

Gonna use my secret weapon this round.

Looking back at this roulette I sent too much weird stuff because I thought you could handle it, when it turns out you couldn't really. I should have realized that earlier. Glad you liked Caravan Palace at least, I was pretty certain you would.

No idea what I'm going to send for the last round, but it's not going to be above 8 minutes. I might even resubmit something from a band you didn't like that much before.

Predicted writeup for my next song:
"This is okay. The banjo player sucks though. And the flute is too low in the mix. I like the glockenspiel, though. +2/5"

Come on Tyrias, your only weird song is that Russian Roulette track  ::) - I do like some weird shit like Swans, Death Grips, Susanna & Jenny Hval, Igorrr, clipping, Converge, and similar.

Dunno what instrument that is, ToN, but is so distorted that it sounds like a cheap guitar :P
