161 games, and it's down to Dodgers at Giants to see if we go to the playoffs. That's pretty much the essence of baseball in a nutshell for me.

Postseason predicts

Wild Card Round
5. Baltimore vs. 4. Toronto
5. San Francisco vs. 4. New York

Divisional Round
4. Toronto vs. 1. Texas
3. Boston vs. 2. Cleveland
5. San Francisco vs. 1. Chicago
3. Los Angeles vs. 2. Washington

ALCS
3. Boston vs. 1. Texas

NLCS
3. Los Angeles vs. 1. Chicago

2016 World Series
1. Chicago vs. 3. Boston

Of course I want to see the Orioles win it all, but I don't think that they make it out of Toronto. The silver lining will be that the baseball world gets another dose of Toronto vs. Texas.

If the Orioles are out, I want the Cubs to finally win another World Series. But I think that Boston is on an incredible run and are on the way to their 4th championship in the Golden Era/Ortiz Era.

Yeah, this is basically how I see it going down too. That AL wildcard tomorrow is a toss up though with how both teams have been playing lately. Definitely looking forward to the Stroman v. Tillman showdown on the mound!

I think the Red Sox exhaled when they made the playoffs and the Big Papa tributes has caused the team to lose focus.  I hope the playoffs change that.

I'll never understand why MLB teams do the whole retirement tour with gifts for some retirees. I get that Ortiz (just like Rivera and Jeter) is going to be first ballot HoF inductee, but why on earth does every team have to have a ceremony with gifts? Never made sense to me. Especially with opposite league teams. They barely even play each other, so why is a team like the Padres giving anything to a Boston player?!

Well, this weekend it was a 3 game homestand and every day they had festivities.  It was overboard.

Likewise. The 6pm Mountain start time kinda sucks for me though. I need to make an appearance at the Edmonton Oilers pre-season NHL game tonight to show the wife our shiny new arena, so I'm going to miss a good chunk of the live game.

Haha no. Although my friend is their Director of Communications, I'm not connected directly.  This is a purely social visit. I have season tickets that i share with a couple friends, but I have to take my wife to 1 game each year. I'd much rather not waste a regular season game on it.

I just didn't expect the Jays to be in the wildcard game when i made this plan worth the Mrs. I thought the Jays would have the AL East all wrapped up a week or two ago  ;)

All she gets is one game a year, and it's a preseason to boot?

I'm not even sure Ortiz should make the Hall of Fame at all, so the thought of him being a first ballot guy makes me laugh.  He's a DH who once failed a PED test (and given how high and mighty voters are about the steroid era, how can they ignore that?).

OK, I'll take the bait. Ortiz will get in, and may break down the PED barrier to getting in. I mean, what was it, 7 names leaked..out of NY? A Rod and two Boston guys? Coincidence? And it's a list that inexplicably didn't include Bonds??

I am not here to say that Ortiz did or didn't do PEDs. I actually believe he did, but everyone in that era did, as far as I am concerned. I mean, Bagwell, Piazza?? Anyone that thinks those guys didn't do anything is crazy.

Also, as the old fogey writers get replaced by a younger generation, these guys will start getting in.

Personally, I don't care about PEDs, but I know the self-righteous writers do.

Taking that out of the picture, I cannot say a freaking DH is a first ballot Hall of Famer.  I'd love to see a breakdown of how many pitches per game he was actually involved in.  Anybody who plays the field is over 50% since they are on the field for every pitch and then their ABs and then for every pitch when they are on base.  Ortiz might be in the game for 20-25 pitches out of 250+ per game.

DH is still a position nonetheless. The bias against Edgar Martinez is crazy.

Like kickers in the NFL. If you're the best kicker of your generation, you should get in.

Maybe there hasn't been a DH other than Martinez that has justified electing one to the HOF, but Ortiz more than justifies it.

Oh, and the coolest thing about watching the Jays is seeing Geddy Lee behind home plate scoring the game!
