I'll be going purely off the coloured lists.

I have an idea of who it might be, but then one or two artists on that banned list completely put me off.

The competition won't be starting for at least another week

Everyone who was eligible was sent a PM and all of them have since visited the forum. I had every intention of considering no response to mean declining. I won't hold off starting this proper on the planned date for anyone.

Methinks I know who the Red judge is.
Probably.

That's like me asking what something is and you just telling me it's not yogurt. I know when the roulette won't be starting, but I'd like to know if you at least have a tentative date.

For me personally, I have guests from pretty far away over the weekend and won't have time to listen to submissions until monday evening. Since it will probably take some time for everyone to send anyway, maybe set this weekend as starting day?

I wanted to start on the 8th (which is one week after I made that post) however this was dependant on one of the judges being ready at that point. It may or may not be delayed a day or two. I only sort of had a tentative date.

But having said that, if people have worked out what they want to submit for the first round, I don't mind if they want to start sending now. Just be aware that the submissions might not be getting listened to at all until the 8th/9th/10th.

Thanks, sorry if I sounded like a whiny bitch, it wasn't my intention but I read what I wrote again and think I came off like that  :blush

I think I know what I'll be sending but I'll do a little bit more thinking before.

This... but not doing any thinking.  Just have to double check what colour round this is, and make sure I'm not sending anything banned.

Well, I sent it to you over Spotify.
If anyone else would rather do this (instead of sending Spotify URI links through PM), my username is bolsters.s

Additionally, I said I'd send off what I have received to the judges every 24 hours, but if I get five submissions before that period has passed I will pass what I have along early.

@Tyrias: this is my (sort of) answer to that Arstidir entry of yours in my roulette. At least it has that folk vibe and I love that song, so there's that. I don't think I would've picked this song for any other round, but I think it's perfect for yours.

@425: let's see how you'll like this. You didn't include this artist in your banned list so I figured I'll have a go with it. This should be more up your alley than the previous time I tried it.

@Mr. Red: if you happen to dislike this song, I regret to inform you that your tastes probably suck and I'm not looking forward to your round at all.

Consider me intrigued, I've been looking for music in that vibe but haven't been able to find anything else that good in that style.

Could you link to the OP the posts with the banned lists and the rounds? Kind of annoying having to scroll through the entire thread to find them :P

To the judges, if you're out there (and Bolsters isn't censoring the identities behind each submission):

Turn your volume up loud to hear the beginning well and don't, under any circumstances, turn the volume down as the piece progresses. I understand that this might not be the most conventional thing to send for a roulette, but I think it has something to offer. More than anything it's my attempt at introducing a certain kind of atmosphere and intensity, rather than a certain kind of music. Don't bother singing along, but to try to keep an open mind. Maybe light some incense and turn the lights off. It's an exercise in climax.

When I ran my first roulette I noticed that some people gave a lot more background info than others. Maybe the reasons they loved the song, or why it was influential on their music tastes in general. Just something to set the right kind of mood. I learned to appreciate those tidbits a lot, even in those instances when the song wasn't my thing. It might even've given them the inside track on the first listen (though that was usually corrected after multiple listens, anyways).

Now I'm just trying to pass the torch along, even if it is (sometimes) in an admittedly goofy or pretentious way  :lol

Yeah the first roulette I participated in I simply sent the youtube links, I didn't really know how it worked. Now I write whatever comes to my mind when listening to that song hoping that it would invoke the same feeling with OP.

I totally appreciate the insight/background info. It probably doesn't ultimately affect the scores I give each particular song, but I do like to hear a little bit about what the song means to the person who sent it or whatever else they think might be interesting about it. :tup

And so far, Bolsters has not been censoring the names of who sent each song, so I imagine I will be able to follow your instructions.

No, I'm not--I'm acutely aware of why you'd say that, though. I also read the things I post and like I said, while you were ninja'ing me, I can spot the occasional goofiness and pretension.

Bottom line: it's just a game and I'm not losing any sleep over it, but all of the above is all part of that game. It's role playing, as much as anything. All part of the fun. I'll add to my testimony: I don't own incense

(yes, even this explanation now looks like I'm taking things too seriously. It's an infinite regress, or some shit like that. I don't know logic...   :\;)).

Has Bolsters also passed the words I wrote describing my song and explaining what it's about to the judges? I asked him to do it but didn't get any confirmation.

If he didn't, I'll just send a PM to you and Tyrias. I can't post them in this thread without revealing what I've sent.
