Dude.... you have a 3 point lead on me.  You only need to worry about yourself not screwing up.  21 is my high score so far.  So long as you don't shit the bed, you're good to go.

Sent some more modern melodeath.  Was gonna have a laugh with some full on growls, but decided to send something still with some great melody.  You never know I could still possibly convert someone.  :lol

I've never thought about it really Jason because I've never sent anyone any growls before, or the ones that do a round of minimal growls, I always have to compromise.  The albums that got me into growls though were;

Soilwork - Chainheart Machine
Soilwork - Figure Number Five
In Flames - THe Jester Race
Children of Bodom - Follow the Reaper
Trivium - Ascendancy

They were my big four bands that converted me.

You know I'm the Paula when a contestant sends an artist that they previously sent in my solo roulette and says that they feel like they're taking a risk with me and that I didn't really like the song they sent before... When I gave that song an 8.5/10. Because even the songs that I apparently seem from my writeups to not really like score at an 8.5. :lol

(FWIW, I did like the song in question, quite a bit, actually—I just did not fall head-over-heels in love with it, which probably resulted in a less effusive writeup, which probably created the impression that I didn't care for it, because the main way to tell how much I like a song is by gauging how effusive my positive review of it is. Because the review is almost always positive. Because I am Paula.)

I'd take at least 1 point from his score if he talked to me like that....

Yeah, that was me. :lol I didn't remember it was 8.5/10 to be honest and I was too lazy to check. I seem to recall your write-up had that "yeah, well, this is good, whatever" vibe, but I might be wrong too. I just somehow remembered you weren't enthusiastic about that song at all.

Yeah, I don't even know why any of that happened. Completely unprompted. Unacceptable.

I totally understand. One of the biggest challenges for me in that roulette that I hope I'm getting better at this time is calibrating my scores and writeups to my actual feelings about the song so that all three of them match. That was probably an instance where I was not positive enough in my writeup which caused it to seem like a writeup for a 7.5 maybe more so than one for an 8.5. I liked the song quite a bit but was not driven to great enthusiasm by it.

senecadawg2: James Blake - Retrograde

A lot of my feelings on this are pretty similar to my feelings on Overgrown, so I won't repeat everything here. Like Overgrown, Retrograde has a very good atmosphere and an awesome emotional vocal performance. Both songs are memorable and emotional. The fact that there are two songs of this quality on the same album has only encouraged me to get into this guy's music.

Between the two songs, I like Retrograde just a little bit better, mainly because it doesn't have that small five-second dissonant part that I dislike in Overgrown, but also because there's a little bit more of a groove in this one. Both are incredible songs, but Retrograde is a hair above. It's enough above on a 15 point scale that it does warrant an added half-point.

Score: 14.0 (+0.5 above the original)

With this done, about to get started on Round 6.

I think Retrograde has less groove and more dissonance than Ovetgrown :lol. Funny how our opinions of those 2 songs are completely different in those two aspects.

I'm 2 listens in. So far this round is pretty mixed for me, some pretty underwhelming stuff, some great stuff and some stuff in between. Opinions are of course subject to change, since my last 2 listens were done after an exhausting week and a really exhausting weekend, so that probably worked in favor of the more laid back songs so far (though I did enjoy one of the heavier tracks quite immensely, despite my state of permanent exhaustion).

Also, Sacul's song totally feels like 2 songs to be honest, even though it's only one track. More like a suite.

And sorry Evermind, I don't really have a comfortable chair to rest in, I'm not too fond of whiskey and I don't have a cat, so I'll have to listen to your song without any of those ;).

Also, I'll post my write-ups either Thursday evening or Friday, depending on when I get home on Thursday.

I'm two listens in now as well. I'll probably be posting writeups on the heels of Tyrias.

I would say that this is a pretty average round. There are some songs I liked a good bit, but there's nothing that jumps out as a really strong round winner. There are also some songs that I think are good but not that notable.

And yeah I'm in a dorm so no cat and I'm under the legal drinking age in the United States so no whiskey.
