Will decide on something tomorrow - and PM it to Tyrias so he's not waiting on our host to re-forward.
I don't really see why that's necessary, he doesn't go away until Saturday, and I pass on what I've received daily.

Well, if I don't get to it until noon my time, that's 3am (??) for you.  I could give him a listen or two extra, so that he can get his writeups done by Friday.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

Okay, send it directly to him if you wish. But I'd also like you to send it to me so I can check whether 425/Red know the song and want to abstain.

All three rounds in this tier are open.

Nekov's growing quite the lead!

Indeed.  And you dropped a helluva turd there?!?   :omg:

Apparently two of the judges thought so...

That Beardfish song is one of my favorites, though not one I've ever submitted for a roulette before...

I'll send my next round shortly

i suppose it's kind of ironic that the self-proclaimed "paula" of the three judges ended up giving me the least points of the three judges  :corn

I'm also probably the most vanilla of the three judges—stuff that I put in a box labelled "too weird" is likely to take a hit in the scoring. Both your first two submissions were in that box to an extent. As evidence of this trend, notice the failure of Being Human to impress me while it seems everybody else loves it.

Well, I liked it, anyway!  :-\

I already have 3 songs, thank you for being so quick (and thanks to Bolsters for forwarding rather quickly)! I did a first listen of what I got so far, but the only thing I'm gonna say right now is that I'm loving the variety here! 3 pretty different songs.

Also, here are some good-bye words to our (unfortunately) eliminated participants:

Parama: I think I'm actually the judge who enjoyed your submissions the most, so I'm kind of sad to see you go. You sent 3 very interesting songs, 2 of them good, and one of them excellent (The Hirsch Effekt). From what you told about your tastes in this thread, I think we have pretty opposite developments there. You seem to be going for more hardcore and heavy stuff lately, while I'm more drawn towards calm and emotional (not necessarily sad though) recently. Doesn't mean I can't appreciate a good heavy song though ;). Thank you for playing!

lonestar: I'm sorry to see you going first again after you finished last in my first roulette. You did send 3 good songs, but unfortunately your last submission was your weakest one and got you out of the ranks of survivors. Anyway, I'll probably check out Kingcrow when this Roulette is over, so thanks for introducing me to them :D.

Edit: now 4 songs received ;)

There's at least one mistake in there, Parama had 18 points total from me, and Wolfking 17.

Also, I'm loving that Bent Knee album. Lots of stellar songs on there.

I think the table Bolsters posted is quite interesting. I gave the highest combined score to a single contestant of the first set of rounds, and tied for the second-highest, but I also gave the lowest and tied for the second-lowest. Mr. Red gave the highest total number of points: 176.5 vs. 173 for me and 171.5 for Tyrias. So we're all pretty close in terms of point totals, but it seems that Mr. Red has actually been the nicest and Tyrias has been the meanest. I may have to embrace the role of Randy Jackson.

To the judges, two questions: what's your take on hip-hop? Do you like some crazy electronic percussion, like glitches and such? :P

As I'm sure you've heard from me already, hip hop is a genre I don't know that well, but I would guess that it will be hit or miss. Glitches are an absolute no, those are going to bother me and I'll almost certainly dock you a half point just for annoying me with those.

To the judges, two questions: what's your take on hip-hop? Do you like some crazy electronic percussion, like glitches and such? :P

Well, I've never really listened to Hip-Hop and I don't really enjoy what little I do know. It's mostly mainstream stuff though, so maybe something more "indie" would suit me better. I wouldn't bet on it though. As for electronic percussion, I don't really mind it as long as it just enhances the song. A friend once played me a band called "Glitch Mob" that apparently use a lot of this weird percussion and I quite liked what I heard.

That being said, no matter the genre, the most important stuff in a song is always emotion, be it sadness, angriness, happiness or just a certain mood. If it leaves me cold in that regard you'll be lucky if you get a 9 (or a 3 in a sec round).

Also, I think you sent something kind of hip-hoppy / glitchy in my last roulette (at least I think it was you) that I felt rather lackluster about (at least looking back, I think I actually gave it a decent score back then). Make sure it's not the same thing.

I wouldn't put too much importance on those added-up scores. They might just be an indication of how strong the particular round of the judge was in terms of songs, rather than the overall "strictness" of the judge. Though it's kind of nice being seen as the "meanest", no expectations of being nice to fulfill :P

Oh, no question, that's why I made a point of saying how we were all pretty close to each and saying that you have been the meanest across these three rounds, not that you are the meanest.

I'm 2 listens in, very mixed reactions so far. Some pretty good stuff, some things I don't really care for that much. I don't see anything becoming one of my top three songs in this roulette so far, though.

Also, there's quite a difference between rough top and bottom marks right now, so this has the potential to shake things up a bit.

4 listens in, and here are some interesting facts about my scores so far:

Out of the bottom three ranked participants, two of them sent the two best songs this round and are going to gain quite a bit of ground. The other one sent the worst song of this round, and a clear contestant for worst song of the roulette so far (it's still a decent song though). This opinion might change though.

This is a really diverse round: We have classical, prog rock, alt rock, something rather post-rocky, and a few songs that could maybe be labelled as prog but don't really fulfill most of the clichés about prog.

Also, I'm considering making my next round a "female lead-singer" round, because female vocals are seriously underrepresented in this roulette so far.
