While I like themed rounds I think given there are 3 different judges that will probably be a big headache so if this is up to a vote I'll rather not have them.

it's very unlikely I'll be cockblocked on those.

... except for the themes.

Cock-block him for us Bolsters.  Keep themes in place.

If we're going to have the themes, let it be something like "send post-rock", "send shoegaze with elements of mathcore" and "send electronic music" so I won't be the only one who's fucked.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

the hard part of this is that my current tastes don't really align with any of the judges so i can send stuff i love a lot and get less than 60% of the possible points which is a failing grade  :lol

though this submission is the first time i've sent this particular artist in a roulette, mostly because i was holding out to see if there was anything on the other album from them i got recently that was better/more roulette friendly

there wasn't, but it was still a pretty great album and i'm getting yet another from them soon  :lol

i'm also incredibly weary because this song did nothing for me until several months after the fact when it suddenly became the best thing ever

Okay, sent a song from 80s. Let's see how that will work.

@Tyrias: I think this song is a bit folky, but it's mostly a rock song. I'm not sure you'll actually like it because it's, well, from 80s, and I don't think you tend to like the songs from 80s and older but hey, I might be wrong and anyway, it's not your round and this song rocks.

@425: Well you did like Sugar Mice in your roulette, so I think this one might appeal to you too. Not that it's any similar to Sugar Mice, it's just it has the same a bit dated production. Also, see what I said to Tyrias, it mostly applies to you too.

@Mr. Red: I hope you will like this one. As I said, your list has a lot of classic bands in it, and seeing how this one wasn't on it, I thought I fill up the gap. Dunno if it will work - I'm not quite as confident as I was in previous two rounds - but I do love this song, and I hope you will grow to like it too.

Also, 425 clear your inbox ;).

Done. Sorry!

edit: oh, the next couple of rounds can be themed. I guess that could ruin my carefully prepared two 10+ minutes long songs for Round 5 and 6.

edit2: can we just have the Tier 2 rounds non-themed? I feel like I have a three perfect songs for these rounds and it's very unlikely I'll be cockblocked on those.

Themes can be done for future rounds at the discretion of the host judge. At this time, I am not planning to do any themes. I think themes are best suited for the type of roulette where there's one judge who is searching for something to fit a particular element of his musical taste, not for a championship roulette.

As to whether Tyrias or the Red Judge will choose to include a theme, they will have to speak for themselves (i.e. through Bolsters in the case of Red) as to whether they will do so. I won't entirely rule it out, but I imagine that I will not have themes.

Aw, c'mon... grow a pair  :D.  It's pretty simple to come up with some fairly non-constricting themes like "great guitar solo", or "solo artist", or "drum-less".  There's lots of themes that span all genre's and tastes.

Just do something to put a wrench into Ruslan's plans.

It's funny because we had the discussion about open or themed rounds via PM just a few hours before it started in the thread :lol.

This was my initial reaction to themed rounds in the PMs:

Quote
I think I'd just prefer to keep them open, so that everyone can just send their top game. Also I'm having a hard time finding rounds that won't constrict one of the participants more than the others, and since this is the championship I'll try to be as fair as I can to everyone. Hence, open.

I might decide to change that and go with a really broad theme if someone has really convincing arguments.
(If you were wondering, "Just do something to put a wrench into Ruslan's plans." doesn't count as convincing.)

Also, I have some great ideas for a set of themed rounds that I'll use in my own roulette v2, but are completely unusable in this scenario :P.

Now get me an answer to my query.
I was waiting for all three judges to respond. Sending the answers now.

can we just have the Tier 2 rounds non-themed?
All of the rounds are going to be open I think, none of the judges wanted to limit any of you on what you could send. I can confirm that tier 2 will all be open, tier 3 likely the same.

Not that I really care but I have played in 6 for 2 wins and missed a win on jingle's by a bee's dick.  So I'll claim 33.3% thanks   ;D
My spreadsheet had you in 7 but I checked and yeah only 6. So I just spent an eternity doing that and probably fucked it up more than once.

Just had to let you know that my original count of 7 was correct; the reason I thought you were only in 6 when I rechecked after your comment is because I did a CTRL+F for bl5150 but you were credited as b5150 for a roulette. So while I had counted that when making the spreadsheet and therefore had the correct value of 7, it appeared you had one less than you actually did because of the typo.

The seven roulettes you have been a part of are: senecadawg2, Shadow Ninja 2.0, Evermind, Big Hath v2, TAC, Shadow Ninja 2.0 v2, and jingle.boy v3.

I'm about half way through double-checking the list but so far there have been no errors.

The judges are in listening mode, I haven't heard anything from them yet. But, this round could possibly be delayed a little bit, some band released a new album or something.

Yeah, this is what's going on. Because not only did some band release a new album, they released a new album that's really freaking long. Planning to dive into this round today, though.

I just finished my first listen (I was away over the weekend so I didn't have time so far.)

My first impression is rather positive. As I expected from the posts in this thread there is quite a bit prog and rock/metal, as well as significantly more old stuff than in the last 2 rounds.

There is one song where I kept asking myself if the singer was male or female, and every five seconds or so I thought to myself "Yep, a men" only to think "No, a woman" 10 seconds later.

Another song that stands out quite a bit from the crowd, both by being rather different, as well as being freakin' awesome (not that there's nothing else that's awesome :P.)

One song with a moment where I was like "Oh, i have heard that before", but then I recognized nothing else except those 5 seconds.

There are also a few songs that didn't really make any kind of impression on me so far, but I'm pretty sure further listens will remedy that.
