Might be wrong, but I think the strings are played solely by the orchestra.

Can't remember where, but I think I've noticed synth strings somewhere in TA.

It's orchestra.  You don't pay for David Campbell to score the entire thing with full orchestra and choir, and then use synth strings.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.
