Well, it's unusual, isn't it? Familiar and different all at the same time.

But, it's not a proper song though, or so it seems to me. I suspect it will fit with the album-as-a-whole but by itself the last half seems out of place (if completely awesome).

I will say, I'm really encouraged that JP's guitar volume "feels" to be in the sweet spot this time. Audible but not overwhelming the other musicians.

We shall see :soon:

Does anyone think that Dystopian Overture will be very similar to The Gift Of Music a la Overture 1928 or will that be too similar ?

I mean - I *know* that as a concept album there will be familiar themes / motifs throughout and that an Overture basically lays out the music to come. . . .

The chorus of this song would lend well to strings playing in an overture, for sure.

Like 1928 overture to Strange Deja-vu?

Do you mean sonically / stylistically? I don't know, it would be cool to do an overture of the record like 1928, but maybe it will be darker overall to set the tone of the actual environment of the world, rather than combining all the themes. Then GOM will bring the hope of the main character?

Awesome!  So many changes in 4 minutes!  Kind of a hanger of an ending though, but it leads into the next song I guess.

It really is a SHAME that the music industry has "moved on," because a song like this is what SHOULD be on the "pop charts!"

Interesting opinion lol.

I said on FB earlier and got a lot of likes... I really can't get into the self titled album AT ALL, but though ADTOE was possibly the best album since TOT. However this song is the most pure DT sounding and most excited I've felt since I was waiting for 8V to come out.

The self-titled album took me a while to get into as well, but now I like it better than the first time I listened to it. And coincidentally I have said that ADTOE is my favorite since SDOIT (we were close :lol). But yeah this one got me right off the bat . . . super excited to hear the whole album!!!

Someone post lyrics :c

Someone asked me for that and I think I made out most of it (I could be wrong).

Maybe someone can correct/add to mine?

Far in the distant future
Beyond the pages of our time
Cold-blooded wicked tyrants
Threaten the freedom of mankind

Corruption, lust, and greed
Define the new nobility
Changing the course of history

Across the vast north empire
Most people struggle to survive
Living a meek existence
(Can’t make out this line)

We are living day to day
Forced to bear the lion’s share
People just don’t have the time for music anymore
And no one seems to care

My friends have seen the chosen one
Our quest for freedom has begun
He will be the answer to our prayers

There walks a guy among us
Who’s seen the writing on the wall
He is the revolution
He’ll be the one to save us all

My brother Gabriel
Is all the hope we need
Shining like a beacon in the dark

(Can’t make out this part) Ravenskill
A reason to believe
Music is the gift he brings
(Can’t make out this line)

Anyone think this could be an edit (like with Home) and TGOM is actually around 7 minutes? Or it just goes into the next track like predicted?

My god, the part where he says Gabriel's name is just so fucking epic.

For some reason, at 2:44 I feel like a hard cut, as if they cut a part ala Constant Motion single version and Home.
I don't think the song exceeds 6 min, in case this wasn't its real duration, just like Strange Deja-Vu

Not sure if this album's gonna be the next SFAM, but I absolutely love this track. LaBrie killed it on the vocals! It reminds me of the work he did for Frameshift, or something from his Mullmuzzler albums.

It's OK, nothing in it grabbed me on first listen and I remember not enjoying some of the instrumental parts, but I am still curious how the rest of the album turns out. Probably won't be listening to it until release, though.
