They are generally not comfortable writing songs about just religion.

ITNOG? Blind Faith?

That's just JLB, afaik, but even then Blind Faith isn't all about religion. Even Myung tends to shy away from just religion. They are inspired by religion maybe, but their songs tend to have a larger basis than just that.

Yeah, basically they're not Neal Morse..

ITNOG was written by JP, but still. I remember reading somewhere JP said religion does play a big role in a lot of things he writes. Having said that though, it's still done in a way where it can be interpreted many different ways (and often the explanations he gives have nothing to do with religion anyway).
But, I've heard an interview mentioned several times where James actually explains the meaning of BF, but can't find it anywhere. Does anyone have a quote?

Long distance relationships.
Q: "When he went, had you gone and had she, if she wanted to and were able, for the time being excluding all the restraints on her not to go also, would he have brought you, meaning she and then, to the station?"
A: "OBJECTION, your honor! That question should be taken out and shot!"

Thank god I'm not just insane.
Man, this song just makes me think of her so much :')

But still... I've always related it to JP and his wife dealing with their relationship while he's touring, but who knows?

That's exactly what the song is about.. Only that some say is about the whole band.. I mean about each DT member and the sacrifice of their families..
