Sure did! Another grammar school friend showed up and we had a gut splitting conversation on the difference on Stouts vs. Porters. It turned into "Who's on first" & "Surely you can't be serious ".

I don't mind them every now and then but sometimes they become cumbersome. It's a lot harder to look busy than to be busy.

Thanks. All is fine now, as I said, but at the time it was pretty shitty that the oldest friend I had could just throw it all away so easily. Part of growing, I guess, is realizing who your friends really are and keeping them around longer than the ones who aren't.

Drew... I had the exact same thing happen (tho, he was my wedding party, but not my best man). For some reason he started communicating less, excluding me from things, not responding to my calls/messages. We hadn't spoken in a number of years, and I sent him a very heart-felt note on his 40th birthday (4 years ago) summing it up that we can't change the past, but can work to create a different future.

Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch.

I have no idea why he decided/needed to cut me out of his life, but it's his choice and nothing I can do about it. Just have to accept and move on. It was tough for sure, but accepting it is all we can do.

For me, I'm connected 24/7 so when I can tune out it's nice but I totally get where you care coming from. When you're knee deep in work the time just files.

It's rough, jingle. When he moved out of state, he would visit home and we would always hang out together. Then I remember seeing him post on Facebook that he came back home, went to an Orioles game, and hung out with other friends, but didn't even text to say he was in town. That was really when I knew he had severed the tie, but I stubbornly clung to baseless hope until his wedding. Meh, talking about it helps but I'm basically over it. I know better people now.

Just got a text from my wife saying a colleague of hers at her school finally succumbed to terminal cancer last night. My wife is pretty wrecked, said she wants to go out tonight to distract herself.

Damn straight.
I lost a really good friend, one of the tattoo artists I had gone to, to complications from a bone marrow transplant a few years ago. He had leukemia and got a non-family donor match, but his body rejected it and he developed graft vs. host disease. He actually had the cancer in complete remission a month before the GvH perforated his intestine for the 4th time and we lost him. Horrible.
