She's young, inexperienced, and tends to move too fast, and then makes excuses. She has made it painfully clear she's looking for another job and everyone knows it. This time around she sent out the wrong email at the wrong time with the wrong information and her response to it was to say someone else should have caught the mistake. I wasn't a part of the project at all, but I did receive the erroneous email and then had to issue a correction to 500 registrants of a webinar.

I kept my mouth shut because she doesn't report to me, but I just quietly shook my head because it is obvious to me that she lacks the experience to recognize mistakes, correct them, and keep her mouth shut when she needs to just own up.

And I didn't say she was getting fired. Just in trouble.

I have to say this is one of the first jobs where not only am I being paid for my expertise, said expertise is actually being utilized and RESPECTED. I've never worked with a group of people who are so grateful to have me on board. It's a different feeling, one to which I am not accustomed, but I have to say it's nice to be in this position for once, rather than feeling like my position is a scapegoat.

Hah thanks. I try to write professionally for the most part, at least when I think about it.

And yes, as a manager I always tried to thank someone when they helped out or compliment them when they excel. I've never understood how people who only focus on the negatives reach positions of relative power.

That's another thing about this position: at almost every other job, when a good job was accomplished, nothing was said. The mentality was simply, "That's why we pay you." However, should you ever make a mistake, it was like Braveheart; you were paraded around and pelted with garbage on the way to your execution, because, "That's NOT why we pay you." Basically, the thought was, if you are doing a good job, no one notices you, and I think that's bullshit. This company recognizes what I bring to the table and tells me, so I'm not left wondering if my performance is acceptable, mediocre, or outstanding.

I think it's important to create an encouraging work environment. There's nothing worse than people feeling miserable as soon as they walk in the door. Work suffers and treatment of coworkers usually becomes an issue.

Yep. And this girl who messed up is feeling that way now. The thing is, from what I understand in my short time here, she hasn't proven herself. It appears that as soon as something goes wrong, she is on the defensive, and I can understand that to a point. She is the youngest one here and has the least experience. But a lot of the time you get back what you put out, and it seems like whenever something goes wrong she just throws her hands in the air and says "that's what I was told."

I had a supervisor like that. Instead of saying, It's my fault and I will correct it, it was reasons why it wasn't his fault. It hurt him from getting his own site to run. He was a damn good worker too!

Unless someone makes a huge mistake that I can't back... I usually take the brunt of fuck ups. I have enough klout that I can just shrug a lot of flak from the client off.
