Up at 7am for work today and worked for 8 hours...

But not very busy. Decent amount of customers. Not enough to be overwhelmed but not few enough to get bored. :)

Our take was unexpectedly high. :) management happy.

Even better I have tomorrow off. There is a slim chance I may be called in if someone is ill but I don't even care as I'll just get paid more  :biggrin: :biggrin:

I lost my job at Starbucks on March 30 2015. Told me Dad via email and he replied that I could move back to Wales and look for a new job. I moved back on April 3rd.

BUT HOLY CRAP. Moving out of my flat in Reading, England was über stressful. Holy shit.

I told my agents that i'd been sacked and they really did not help in any way at all. They said that I needed to still give two months notice and pay the rent for the two months.

I had to pay to get the flat professionally cleaned AND pay £300 "early leaving fee" EVEN THOUGH I WAS PAYING RENT FOR THE TWO MONTHS.

We tried to get out of it but after so many confusing emails back and forth we just decided to pay what they were asking to get it over with... :(

We couldn't get to the bottom of

 Why I had to pay £300 to get out of the contract early if I ALSO had to pay the remaining two months rent.
   i.) that's not early release
   ii.) If i'm paying an "early release fee" - why am I ALSO paying the final two months ?

Finally I "had to" pay for a professional cleaning service to make the flat ready for the next tenant. Even though it was a studio flat ( one room and an ensuite cubicle )

and I spent like a week scrubbing it spotless from top to bottom - it wasn't good enough and still had to pay. They had to be in cahoots.

But yeah it was a fuck load of stress just to move house and I don't want that amount of stress again for a while....


New job is great though and it's really quiet at the moment being winter and i'm enjoying it as summer is FULL ON :p.

But Now I live 6 miles from the beach and I took a basic road test for a 125cc motorbike which I drive around when it's warm :)

Wow. Sorry to hear about the drama you went through with your studio. I have such a distrust for people in real estate. They can easily take advantage of the fact that you NEED a place to live. Sort of like charging a ridiculous amount of money for food at a movie theater.

Well I used to work at the cinema and they said they don't actually make any money on the ticket prices. All the profits are made on concessions. So there is that...

My Dad And I read the contract for my new place and they have a 1 month notice for checking out. Also i don't have to pay £75 every time I renew my lease.

I'd love an itemised bill as to why they need(ed) £75 for me to just carry on what i'm already doing ::)

It's like all they do is provide you with a space. Then you have to pay for everything. No wonder they all wore suits and had nice cars ::)

It's also like - every time I had some problem with something they might get around to it at some point.

But if you're a day late with your rent they're on that phone IMMEDIATELY.


EDIT : In return though - I was not allowed to be living there on welfare but I did anyway and just didn't tell them. My "job" involved me working from home a lot or helping with my brother's

media business ( which I legitimately did - but as a hobby and never expected to get paid. I just liked to tag along ) and that was my real job even though I was unemployed :lol )...

Is that possible? They charge more for seeing movies in 3D so they have to be making money somewhere with the tickets.

That's the irony of many things. If you're a day late with any kind of payments they're charging late fees, calling your house, etc.  When they owe YOU money, it takes weeks before you see it.

They did pay back my deposit pretty promptly though :) they off hand mentioned in one email they could take the £300 early release fee from my deposit and pay us back the rest.

I screencapped that email about 5 times and saved it in 5 different places :lol . No way was I gonna let that get forgotten.

Sure enough - when they demanded the £300 I "reminded" them of their suggestion that they just take it from the deposit and they did so.

The remaining deposit went towards my new place :)

At least they honored that.  Some places would probably find every excuse to avoid it.

In regards to your edit, there are a lot of places here that don't allow people living on welfare to rent. It's a risk, which I understand. At least you were able to make it work for you.

I applied for the housing and unemployment benefits online and there was a checkbox that said

Do you want us to contact your landlords / agent with regards to this application ?

[ ] Yes
[ ] No

So maybe they use that as a back door for such things :p to help out tenants.

mind you - I did feel a lot better when I got a job as it meant no more lying to the agents or the other people in my building.

Yes but what could they really do ? If I recall - being on welfare wasn't forbidden by the contract. It was just not allowed.
