Oh I know that, and I don't expect everyone to have their monitors set up to exact specs, it's just one of those things that bugs me that monitor defaults are so wonked that people complain about white backgrounds when the problem is them, without even realizing it.
My graphics monitor came out of the box set to 29% brightness, which corresponds to a brightness of 120cd, which is perfect. The calibration software doesn't even allow brighter than that unless you check a specific option, and I think my warranty only covers you if you don't run it too far beyond that. And that's at 29% brightness. I don't think I've seen anyone else running them at an equivalent brightness, because they're always set to look bright and saturated to impress the eye.
