Nothing says street cred like a selfie with a pro graphics monitor.

What type/size was it?
My previous monitor was a 17" CRT back in 2003 which cost $205. This should be a sweet upgrade for the most part (although I'll miss CRT refresh rate and lack of input lag).

Alright, guys. I'm heading out into the field. I have to go up to Yonkers, which means I need to drive. I'm really not in the mood for NYC traffic.  :\

For a gamer, that thing will actually kick the shit out of my monitor, as the higher end monitors have much slower refresh rates that are garbage for gaming, because they sacrifice response time for colour accuracy (and vice versa for the cheaper monitors). That monitor is clearly purely for gamers.
If you do graphics work though, you wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

LCD monitors are all about compromise, so it's a matter of what your priority is. If we swapped monitors, we'd both be very unhappy, with good reason. :lol

I just measured up how big this monitor actually is, and damn it's going to be a huge screen compared to my current one. :caffeine:

All this talk of computers...

My bro just got a PC after being a Mac user for a decade.

He maxed out all the specs and the equivalent iMac with the same specs would be far too much money.

He needs it for After Effects and Premiere and whatever else he uses and it's super fast.

Lucky he uses the Adobe programs, since they're all cross platform. Plus with buying a PC, he can upgrade as necessary in future moreso than with a Mac, which again makes it even cheaper.
Out of interest, do you know what monitor your bro uses, since he does graphics?

Morning everyone.

Blob, Amazon shows that monitor for $826.00 U.S.! I don't think the exchange rate is that different. I must have the wrong model number...Eizo CS240, you said?

The Australian dollar is currently in the crapper at $0.72, and we get raped on prices at the best of times. The recommended retail price for the monitor here is about $1600. Also, the price I paid includes the colorimeter to calibrate it, plus a monitor hood, plus shipping.

Makes sense. In notice the 27" monitor in that model is $2200.00 here. That's a huge step up price so it's also likely that Amazon has some sort of "special" going on the 24"

So, I got dragged to a concert last night by my wife and a couple of friends. The English Beat (The British Beat for you Aussies)

That's a higher end range, not in the same range as mine. I don't see the 27" from the same range on Amazon.

Is being full of ska a good thing for you or a bad thing? :lol

Bad.

I can enjoy about 3 or 4 songs in that reggae beat but almost 3 hours of it get's monotonous. I ended up going out in the lobby (where it was quiter) and standing around drinking Rye until the concert was over.

Thanks, Reap.

I'm not. Long story short I manage a hotel, a 4-plex apartment building and 2 residential homes. The hotel is being sold because I turned down the offer to buy it. I'm getting a portion of the sales so I have a safety net for a while. I managed everything from accounting to pool maintenance for $72k a year. I'll take a pay cut to $40k a year and I want to move to Charlotte but I feel that I put myself in such a niche that I just can't find work. I've applied to easily over 100+ jobs.

I'm a network engineer, Cisco certified. I use some of that expertise at my job but I also deal with antiquated phone circuits and equipment like CSU/DSUs. I never worked with the phone system before. Most of my experience is with routers and switches. The phone system is light years easier compared to learning LAN/WAN.

Software engineering is interesting. Besides what I do for my job, I'm also teaching myself C++, Linux Red Hat, penetration testing, and gray hat hacking.

Nice :tup. I was looking into getting a cisco cert for networking and it's tough test

They updated it earlier this year and it made it extremely difficult. The reason being was because people were getting their CCNA and then not pursuing the more advanced certifications. That left them with limited knowledge about networking, so Cisco made the CCNA a more arduous certification to attain. If you want some advice about what to use for studying just let me know.

Give LinkedIn a try too Reaper... I've been told it's basically facebook for professionals (I've never messed with facebook so I don't know) but since I've been on it (was invited by another professional in my field) I've received no less than 15 job offers... and I'm not even remotely looking for another job and I've never said that I wanted another job.  I've just gotten offers for interviews from recruiters.

Again, the offers may be junk/spam, but at least your name's out there on another site.  Good luck.
