Well, you're gonna shart yourself then.  Johnnie Blue is about $300 CAD these days.  I still have 2 bottles leftover from when they were cheaper (one was a gift to my FIL a few years ago, that went unopened, so my MIL told me to take it back ).  Most of the other bottles I get are in the $70-$110 CAD range.

That's a proper whiskey. How do you like the Blue Label, Jingle? I think I'll never spend that much money on a blended whiskey.

Johnnie Blue has a special place in my heart.  I was never a fan of scotch until my early 30s when someone poured me some - so, it really is the scotch that popped my cherry.  For years, that's the only scotch I drank.  Then I deviated, and started drinking single malts about 6-7 years ago.  When it comes to a blend, I'll only drink high-end... the $40-$50 bottles are shit.  I can't stand Gold or lower (Platinum is probably, but I've never tried it), Ballantine's, J&B, Chivas Regal or anything like that.  There isn't much of a selection in the liquor stores here, so I usually just keep it safe, and go Blue when it comes to a blend... at least when I'm drinking it straight.  Mixed drinks - I'd only use a blend.

I usually get something cheap when I don't want to break the bank. However, I always grab a bottle of Blue to have hanging around when I'm in the mood.

In. I have to go meet my middle daughters new flame at dinner tonight so a strong snort is in order. I'm still working on the Glenmorangie so I'll have a short glass when I get home.

How do my fellow Scotch drinkers feel about the heavy, peaty, single-malts like Lagavulin and Adbeg? I'm slowly coming around to them but I'm not sold yet.

I just got a cheap bottle of blended scotch. It's only 200 ml so it might not even last the night. The guy behind the counter said in his thick Russian accent, "is very nice, yes. You try."  I was hoping they had a small bottle of Jim Beam but they only have the larger ones. That will have to wait until Thursday.

Have not had those labels.  There's only a few scotches that I've met that I wasn't much a fan of.  Bowmore and Macallan are my two favorite brands, so I'm not too experienced with real heavy peaty stuff.

That's an interesting combo.  I generally don't mix hard liquor with anything (except for the occasional bloody mary).   How does it taste?

Apple Jacks is a fairly common drink.  Personally, I like to go Jack and Ginger when I'm goin with JD.

I'll be in shortly.  What to pour, what to pour?

It truly is turning out to be a nice evening. I'm drinking some scotch, just lit some patchouli incense, and just put on the latest Riverside CD (Sylvan is up next).

Jack and apple juice complement each other surprisingly well. Doesn't sound like they would go good together, but they totally do. I use light apple juice, even.

I've had both, I still try to never buy a bottle twice, which is getting harder and harder  :lol. Never liked the smokey whiskey's, maybe because I'm not a cigar smoker, I've been told that that's the trick for those peaty whiskeys.
I have a bottle of Aultmore at home right now. Which is basically the opposite of those, very light, but with a lot of flavor.

the other night i had some evil twin even more jesus russian imperial stout and some six point global warmer imperial red. both were good, but the EMJ was some of the best beer i've ever had.

tonight i had a brooklyn brewery black chocolate stout. which was pretty good, but compared to the EMJ it was, like, alright.

Yup.  Sam Adams used hops that are famously grown and originated in the West Coast. Cascade hops are the most famous.  Funny though, that's on of the 2 hops I grow at my house.
