I'm an Irish Whiskey guy.  This is my favorite.

If you spend a little more their single grain is fantastic.

Thanks kingshmegland. I'll look for that. I'm particularly looking for something to drink neat, trying to get into the whole 'nurse a glass' thing instead of pounding down jack n' coke one after another. I'm not sure what I like, honestly, as far as whiskey types go, so the experimenting has begun.

I have a kit to make ice spheres and own the rocks that just slightly chill the booze.

@ Kattoeleox

For "not too expensive but nice" bourbon, I'd say Buffalo Trace and of course Maker's Mark (MM 49 is a little more but pretty damned smooth). Of course, the drinking neat gig also give you an opportunity to really taste the differences between good and great. Angel's Envy is my current favorite of the premium bourbons. They also make a super fantastic rye whiskey (maybe the best spirits I've ever drank).

I put off the whiskey purchase cause I got cold feet at the last minute. Picked up some Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald and barrel aged Victory At Sea instead.  :metal The whiskey will come this weekend. Appreciate the suggestions fellas!

If you ever decide to really go for the good stuff, Chad and I could give you an exhaustive list of single malt Scotches! Bring someone else's check book though.

Last time I met up with Chad he had 3 scotch drinks.  One neat,  one with a ice sphere and another on stones.  With 3 different style, One smoky, one heavy with peat....

In. Having some wine which I haven't had in a while. I don't think it'll pair great with this pizza I'm trying to fight the urge from ordering.

One barrel aged Victory At Sea, and I'm suitably buzzed. God, that's strong but tasty stuff.

The vanilla porter from Ballast Point?

Rocking a 22 oz. Rogue Chocolate Stout tonight. After a 14 mile trail run this afternoon, fuck it, I’ve earned it.

Yeah. The barrel aged is of course much more bourbon-y, and it's 12% instead of 10%. Also a little bit pricier... I prefer the original but the one was all I needed for the evening.

Yeah, 10-12% will buzz you pretty good. Sadly, the one and only time I tried Victory at Sea (the 10% version), my sink enjoyed it more than I did. I’ve heard it’s such a good beer though, so maybe I got a bad or stale batch? Not sure, but not in any rush to try it again. Hands down the worst beer I’ve ever had... :/

Ah, that's a shame. It's supposed to have a very strong coffee smell and taste, but it's possible it's just not your thing. It's my favorite beer to splurge on but even I have to pick and choose when I want it. :)

That’s the thing though - coffee porters and stouts are my bag when it comes to beer. That’s why I was so disappointed. Vanilla porters are amazing in general. Maybe I’ll ask for a taster if I see it on tap somewhere, but I won’t buy another six pack until that point. Haha

I'm saying screw it and grabbing a bottle of Gentleman's Jack tonight. If I'm gonna start adventuring into drinking whiskey neat, I am going to start with something safe that I know I like  :lol

About to sweep up and turn out the lights, landed a huge new account for my business today.  Have some Terrapin Beer Co. Luau IPA ready to deploy.  Not sure if it is sold nationwide but is brewed in Athens GA.  A tad  "grapefruity" but otherwise pretty tasty.  6.5 abv and that seems to be my sweet spot as I don't get sleepy after 2 or 3 but the buzz is about right for listening to music or vegging out with some mindless TV.

In. I’ve had three glasses of Merlot and I’m at the perfect level of drunk.

I don't usually get irked easily but that is one fucked up name for an alcoholic drink. Making a happy looking label of a potentially fatal condition that is directly caused by alcohol.
