I just hope the bagpipes are, ya know, real bagpipes and not JR using the bagpipe sounds on his synth. :lol :lol

I don't know why that would be the case. Jordan did mention a famous bagpipe player's name.

Oh please don't be idiotic.
I'm a big fan of spanish group Mago de Oz and they've been using bagpipes all over their discography and they always sound awesome and have never been a nuisance neither have they been forced or whathever, and they do have metal moments with it.
So if you don't know shit about how bagpipes sound or have never heard them placed appropiately with metal/rock, don't say anything.

Freedom of speech, bae - you can't stop me :P

And I was just kidding - although I love that song (dunno if Dream Theater are into Swans - maybe JR or JM), I don't think DT would dare to make something even close to that :lol

Because english is totally good for that.
It wasn't for a specific person, but it wasn't for you, it was more than clear that you were joking.
When I wrote that, I hadn't even read your post, I had just read Darklord's post. It was for possibleposterswhocouldpostagainstbagpipeswithBS.

So I cannot possibly imagine how's it that you took it for yourself other than baiting.
Talking about nonsense, this argue is.

Well it felt you were talking in singular right after I posted that little joke, so my brain connected both messages - typical fallacy  :P

And I wasn't baiting - I just like to counterargue things for the sake of it, not to start quarrels ;)

But yeah, whatever. On topic: bring the bagpipes!

I hope that's legit, because I really want to hear some different style influences, and guest musicians again.
I just hope they are noticeable influences or nods. I remember last album they were talking about the part in Surrender to Reason where there aren't keyboards, just a four piece and I think it was JP who said they were going for a smokey Jazz club feel and I never quite got that vibe from that section.

They tried to whahibrido pickingant :whahibridopickingant:

can someone please explain what the hell is this?

It's whahíbrido pickingant. What else is there to explain?

Or, start here: https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=45270.0 (from the OP, but it gets funny towards the bottom of page 3).

We took that and ran with it here: https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=45294.0

If there's no whahíbrido pickingant in The Astonishing I will be severely disappointed. Hopefully during a duel between Nafaryus and Gabriel/Arys.

NOMAC's were created at the end of Misunderstood.
JP created them.

JP is The Killing Hand.

The Astonishing is The Killing Hand, Pt. 2 confirmed.

"There walks a God among us, who's seen the writing on the wall"

Gabriel has seen the writing on the wall.

Gabriel is the Killing Hand so he's also JP.

Return of beardless JP confirmed

The record label do not want album reviews to be published yet. I don't think we'll see any until mid january (unless someone breaches the embargo).

If none have appeared then no, it's not. And considering what week it is, they probably won't start coming in until the new year now.

Didn't know about that. Thanks for the info.
I thought that after the Rolling Stone article, the reviews would start appear.

Has the full album been sent out to reviewers now mastering has finished?  As I understand only some tracks had been sent out.

All the little tidbits from the band and words chosen very carefully by Bosk and Noxon have me thinking this is going to be a really
cool, unique DT album...something that truly stands out in their discography!

Damn. It would be so good if they used some Bulgarian bagpipes (kaba-gaidi).

Some examples:

Killing Hand, Pt.2....love it!

Bagpipes....worked rather well for 'Mull of Kintyre', that it was the first 2 million seller in the UK.

Brian May tuned his Red Special for a bagpipe effect around the 2:30 mark for Queen's 'Gimme The Prize'.

'Sounds' interesting.
...going along with Dragon Attack's Queen thread has been like taking a free class in Queen knowledge. Where else are you gonna find info like that?!

The album's going to start with Jonathan Davis from Korn playing them.

Thank you for dredging up one of the worst concert memories of my life.  The dialog between me and my friend Shane went along the lines of (imagine in Beavis and Butthead voices if you like, and it is strangely fitting):
Me:  ???  Uh...
Shane:  What the...
Me:  Does that dude have bagpipes?
Shane:  Yeah.
Me:  This sucks.
Shane:  Yeah, yeah.  This sucks.
Jonathan Davis:  Are!  You!  Ready?!
Me:  Arghghgh!  Mosh pit!
...but this still sucks.
Shane:  Yeah.  This sucks more than suck itself.
Me:  Alex, I'll take "things that suck for 1,000 please."  The answer is, "this band."
Shane:  Yeah, yeah.  This sucks.  Bring on Megadeth already!

I love bagpipes and I'd love to hear some Theremin too.

Sadly, I think many fans (not me) are going to complain about the lack of metal on this record...
