(yeah, a reference for AMC's TWD)With the amount of tracks we have now, assuming each act is a separate CD, then none of the tracks here will be too terribly long, an astonishing change of pace for DT.
I'm thinking it's songs between 2 and 6 minutes, all of them. Excepting maybe a longer one on disc two which'll act as a winddown track (similar to finally free on sfam, i'm thinking).
To reach 20, or even 17 [tracks] (take away the three NOMACS tracks) you still don't have lot of room for DT standards.
Even for 2 CDs the average song length would be only 4.7 minutes.
Itd still be nice to have songs that are well over 8 minutes. Longer songs stick out to me way more.
Talking about full length albums (which is what they almost always have done) we actually do have room for DT standards.. And even if the "average" is 4.7 minutes, that doesn't mean they have to be all 3 to 5 minute songs, and not even 2 to 6, or 1 to 7..
With a full length double-album, we might still have something like this:
ACT I - 20 tracks-Seven 1 minute songs (intro and short interludes, not like SFaM I'd say, but like 8V's negative times)
-Five 2 minute songs (shorts but with JLB, like Regression, TMW or WIMH)
-Three 3 minute songs (short instrumental -probably the overture-, and/or songs like Vacant or TSM)
-Two 5-6 minute songs (DT actually has a lot of these kind of songs)
-One 7-8 minute song (even more average DT song's length)
-One 11-13 minute song (we do need some of these, and there's room for it)
-One 17-20 minute song (and there's even room for an epic)
Total length: from 71 to 79 minutes..
ACT II - 14 tracks
-Four 1 minute songs
-Two 2 minute songs
-One 3 minute song
-Three 5-6 minute songs
-Two 7-8 minute songs
-One 11-13 minute song
-One 17-21 minute song
Total length: from 68 to 79 minutes..
