Yeah, Oceansize was a really weird growing-process for me. At first I was like "what do people like so much about this? i listened to that album 3 times now and I don't remember a single riff", but then I came back for the special feeling their music evokes in me everytime. It's not really something I can describe, but I feel like everytime I listen to one of their albums it has kind of the mix of listening to something familiar, but it feels new all the same. Also, I have "Oceansize-phases" were I just listen to Oceansize exclusively for a few days straight more than for any other kind of band, but when I don't listen to them I never feel an urge to put them on. Not sure if that made any sense, but they're probably in my top 5 bands ever (or at least top 10).

Also, sending Trail of Fire has been rather successful for me in roulettes.

Glad you liked my song, though. Kind of frustrating that I'm doing really well consistently and I'm still only middle of the field.

I was thinking about sending a post-rock song for next round, but after that Oceansize result I'm not too sure anymore. Will think a bit on what I want to send and send tomorrow.

Also, is there a maximum song length? And does our song have to be the first song of an album or are you going for an opening feeling?

Unnatural Selection would be like #4 or 5 on the album for me, Age of Shadows, Liquid Eternity, Beneath the Waves, and The Sixth Extinction are probably all better tracks. but 01011001 is pretty great yeah.

Well, let's see, for me it goes...

1. Beneath the Waves
2. Waking Dreams
3. River of Time
4. Liquid Eternity
5. Comatose
6. The Sixth Extinction
7. Age of Shadows
8. The Fifth Extinction
9. The Truth Is Out There
10. Ride the Comet

11. Unnatural Selection

But hey, mike got 8.5, so it worked and he scored more than you.

Why have you sent Betrayal again?
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

I'm pretty cool with this score, yup.

You should first check a certain Swans album, Evermind :neverusethis:

Bands I still don't find what's amazing about them: Tool, Oceansize, Metallica, Coheed... :P

Honestly, I uploaded it on my phone but damn this album is so long I'm afraid to spin it. I can't listen to it on the road because it's 30 minutes longer than needed and I can't spin it at work because there's no way I'm going to work two hours uninterrupted. :lol

Okay, my options right now are death metal, folk/country, post-rock or turbo-polka.

I will think about it and send tomorrow.

Yea the reason you're getting consistently high scores but aren't in the top because I'm being a dick by giving pretty much everyone high scores, but yeah, the scores are still pretty close, but because of my grading you have smaller chances to climbup quickly.

About Ayreon, I'll check out everything soner or later so I'm not too worried that I missed out with these songs.

Oh and song lengths shouldn't be over like 14 minutes, besides, there's a round based on song lengths that'll allow you to send me like up to 20-30 minute tracks if you feel the urge to. :lol

^ I agree with everything the Russian said.

LordCost, try sending Massive Bereavement next time. Made me an instant fan in my first roulette!
I thought to that song, but then I told myself to send a song popular among fans. I'm not a big fan of Ornament/The Last Wrongs, so Music For A Nurse was a better choice for me

It was hard for me to appreciate Frames and Self Preserved, but not the first two albums, there were songs like Meredith, Heaven Alive or Catalyst that I could remember from the first listen

My only complaint: the song's name is The Scarecrow. It's so epic it deserves this "the".
Oh crap, I guess I mixed it up because there's this album I've been listening to a lot lately which has a title track without "the" and the album name with "the", I believe that album is called The Astonishing or something :neverusethis:

Wow, yay!

It really is a great song, a really great song. I absolutely love the "Have I lost you" part. I had no expectations for that round at all, so I'm really pleased with the score here!

I'll work on something probably far inferior to send tonight.

Take my advice: make a special playlist containing the album songs, and order it with Lunacy as the opener, and then the whole second disc, which is quite more accessible than the first one, and doesn't have the mothafucking 30 mins behemoth that is the title track. And eliminate the rest of disc 1 from the playlist. Trust me, if you can't sit through it all, this should help :lol

I may be in 2nd to last place but I'm only 3.5 pts behind 1st so it's still anyone's game.

Regarding Queen, YES THERE IS MUCH MORE IN THEIR CATALOGUE THAT SOUNDS LIKE THAT!!!!!!! Give them a chance. :)

Glen Hansard – Bird of Sorrow:

You’re building up quite the reputation here, first Damien Rice and now this? Comparing this to 9 Crimes, I feel there’s some moments that surpass that song by miles, but some weaker points aswell, so I’m probably going to end up giving you roughly the same score, which really isn’t a bad thing. Talk about emotional vocals, holy crap, I know BIZKIT wasn’t sure what his favorite aspect of the song was, but I sure am. At this point I’m actually pretty curious what you have in store when it comes to heavier sounds, but I guess I can’t complain if you choose to continue like this.

I might just do that...

Glad you enjoyed the song!

I'd forgotten about the theme and already sent.

I think I'll stick with it, though it's not the most obvious opener, since it is the first track on its album.

I went with a song that is the first on its album just to be safe. :lol Though even if it weren't, it would fit this theme wonderfully regardless.

Results are well underway, will probably be up tomorrow! I thought announcing the artist names last round was a fun idea so I'll go ahead and do it again (in no particular order):

- RUSSKAJA
- Unexpect
- Yes
- East of the Wall
- Vanden Plas
- Navarone
- Steven Wilson
- Sleep Party People
- Coheed and Cambria
- David Gray
- Nine Inch Nails
- Meatloaf

Scores currently range from 6.5 to 9.5
