Is it me, or have these album tournaments flown by so much quicker this year? I suppose it's good, if we're also having the extra tournament at the end to put The Astonishing songs into their new divisions for next season.

So how is the tournament for The Astonishing going to work? Is it going to be like the other album tournaments, like the regular season, or will it be a survivor?

In years past, I'd run 2 albums at once, with one starting every other day. This year, I doubled it.

This Astonishing Tournament will just be for fun, and will have no standing on the 2017 season.  We'll do something a little more in-depth to work the Astonishing songs into the Divisions.

For curiosity's sake, I've taken this year's top 8 (quarter-finalists) and calculated their total regular season record for the 4 seasons of DT the League from 2013-16.

1. Octavarium - 80-0
2. A Change of Seasons - 78-2
3. Breaking All Illusions - 75-5
4. Learning to Live - 74-6
5. Metropolis - 73-6-1
6. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence - 71-8-1
7. Scarred - 64-13-3
8. Home - 64-14-2

This is the right top four as far as I'm concerned. You have their signature song in Metropolis (Pull Me Under is their biggest hit but not their signature song), their two most well regarded epics in A Change of Seasons and Octavarium, and their most well received song from the Mangini era in Breaking All Illusions.

Nice way to put it..

My favorite song from each era:

MOORE: Metropolis Pt 1
SHERINIAN: Hell's Kitchen
RUDESS/PORTNOY: The Count of Tuscany
MANGINI: Ravenskill

That was harder than I expected.. :|

Easy

MOORE: Metropolis Pt 1
SHERINIAN: A Change of Seasons
RUDESS/PORTNOY: Sacrificed Sons
MANGINI: Breaking All Illusions

Just so happen to be 4 out of 5 of my top 5 DT songs too
people on this board are actual music fans who developed taste in music and not casual listeners who are following current fashion trends and listening to only current commercial hits.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote. This season started in December and the tournaments just wrapped up in July.  Once again, we are trapped inside this Octavarium.

It's been a good 4 year run. Will have to see if I have time to do it again next year. If not, someone else can take over, or go the survivor route.  We shall see.

It's been fun. Thanks for hosting this, DoC! And if it is to be your last one, have a happy retirement!  :tup
