DT the League 2013 - https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=34282.0

It's time to make preparations for the next year of the league.

It seems that the majority preferred the Division format, so we'll be doing that again. Promotions for the top 4 from Division 2 and Division 3. Demotions for the bottom 4 from each division.

There will be a survivor for the songs that weren't involved in the league last year. Joining them will be the 4 songs that were demoted from Division 3. This survivor will begin on or around November 1st and will end when there are only 4 songs remaining. These songs will be promoted to Division 3. The song list is as follows. If you feel that a song not included should be added, please let me know.

Looks good to me!

The only song on that list that's worse than Light Fuse and Get Away is Raw Dog.

Yay! DT the League lives again! I like the idea of the Outsiders Survivor forming a "prologue" to the regular season.

How the hell is Never Enough not even on the 3° division? I'll defend it over the rest of the songs in the Outsiders group when the time comes  :metal

I reckon at least one of the demoted songs will get a reprieve and be re-promoted back into Division 3 like a yo-yo.

So all the DT songs are placed in divisions, decided by previous survivors. Inbetween those divisions survivors will be held, where 2 songs go up to eachother and we vote for the best, that way songs can move up a division or degrade downwards. (This is what I understood from it this year, the only time I've participated.)

There's a 20-week 'regular season', with matchups chosen at random by DoC's schedule generator. The 16 songs in each division with the best win-loss records after that go through to that division's final tournament, which will determine its champion through a knockout tournament.

The 4 semi-finalists from Divisions 2 and 3 get promoted up to Divisions 1 and 2 respectively for the following season. The four bottom-ranked songs from each division after the regular season get relegated to the division below, with the Division 3 songs dropping into the Outsiders.

Octavarium comes into this on the back of two straight 100% perfect seasons. Its only defeat came in the 2013 "Semi-Finals". A formidable record.

It's also the only song with a perfect regular season record (60-0) for the entire run of DT the League. Some more songs for comparison:

A Change of Seasons - 58-2
Breaking All Illusions - 57-3
Metropolis - 56-3-1
Learning to Live - 55-5

I know I'm jumping way ahead here, but I've been thinking...now we know the full tracklist for DT13 (The Astonishing), that's a maximum of 34 songs we'll need to add to the 2017 League. If they're to be spread evenly, we're talking 8.5 extra songs per division, including the Outsiders Club. Just pointing out, is all.

Indeed. It will be quite the undertaking. We'll have to see if they're all proper songs, or if some of those tracks are interludes, Regardless... we'll do something special for The Astonishing when the time is right and get the songs in the appropriate divisions for next year.

Yeah, that's pretty cool.  All of those songs are much deserving of those stats.  Would be nice to see BAI move into that top spot.  Thanks for doing this again DoC.  You do a hell of job.

You're quite welcome. It's fun to run, and our "flagship" band deserves better than a survivor.

 Good result there.

*dramatic sports narrator voice* Breaking All Illusions finished runner-up last season. Will it be successful this time round, or will Octavarium claim a hat-trick of League titles? Or could A Change of Seasons haul its way back into the top spot? How will the newly-promoted or demoted songs fare in their respective divisions?

:caffeine: Bring it on!

Considering there are a lot of songs better than those three I would rather prefer another (thus unpredictable) winner for this new League.. But yeah I don't see that happening.. :lol

Looking forward to it though!.. Hope at least BAI gets it this time!

I expected EM to lose, but -17 is pretty embarassing  :lol
people on this board are actual music fans who developed taste in music and not casual listeners who are following current fashion trends and listening to only current commercial hits.

A Fortune in Lies defeats Repentance? I know Repentance isn't loved, but to lose to A Fortune in Lies? Wat?

After this year's tournaments wrap up, we will do something for the music from The Astonishing. This will give us time to let the music sink in, and whatever it ends up being, whether it's a mini-season, a tournament, a survivor, or a combination of sorts, it will serve to integrate the new songs/tracks into the league for 2017.
