I'm getting Office Spaced at work
« on: December 07, 2011, 12:16:04 PM »
In University cost cutting measures, all staff are on "vacation" from Dec. 23 through Jan. 2, the consequences of this are that the stockroom and analytical services will not be staffed and these services will not be available during that time.  How many emails do I need to receive to get this message?  One, and I got it three weeks ago.  How many copies of the memo have I received?  13 by email from 7 different people, as well as a hard copy placed in my mailbox and another one delivered to my lab.

:lolpalm: this is rediculous.  The worst part is that I expect to get the memo at least 5 more times before I leave on vacation. :lol

You know there's going to be at least one clueless idiot who complains that he didn't know the stockroom wasn't going to be open.

and that person should be given a one-way trip to the Sun, or at least be forced to participate in my ongoing experiment, "Can blunt-force trauma be used to increase intelligence?"

Is your only motivation to not be hassled?

Sadly, at this point yes.  The less I see or hear from my boss the better.  I'm in full writing mode now.  I think I'll be done next semester.

That and the fear of losing his job. But you know, Brian, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired.

The thing is, Bob, it's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

It's a problem of motivation, all right? Now if I work my ass off and Initech ships a few extra units, I don't see another dime, so where's the motivation? And here's something else, Bob: I have eight different bosses right now.

Bob Slydell: You see, what we're actually trying to do here is, we're trying to get a feel for how people spend their day at work... so, if you would, would you walk us through a typical day, for you?
Peter Gibbons: Yeah.
Bob Slydell: Great.
Peter Gibbons: Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late, ah, I use the side door - that way Lumbergh can't see me, heh heh - and, uh, after that I just sorta space out for about an hour.
Bob Porter: Da-uh? Space out?
Peter Gibbons: Yeah, I just stare at my desk; but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch, too. I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work.

...  I'd like to move us right along to a Peter Gibbons. Now we had a chance to meet this young man, and boy that's just a straight shooter with upper management written all over him.

I watched Office Space over the weekend for the first time in probably three or four years. It's no where near as funny now that that's my life.

Nah, it's funnier because it's my life.

Yeah, I would have an existential crisis if i watched it now.  I even go crazy when my wife and I say "screw it, lets get pizza" on Friday nights.  Has my life become nothing more than trudging through the workweek to reward myself with pizza that I don't have to cook? :sadpanda:
