Gazpacho - "Molok"
« on: September 18, 2015, 07:08:59 AM »
Exciting times with three of my favorite bands "hopefully" releasing new albums the next 6 months. First out is Norwegian Gazpacho, with their ambitious concept album "Molok" (DT & Circus Maximus with releases early next year).

According to the article referenced "the band continue to push the boundaries for creating the most complicated and strangest concepts for a record while simultaneously becoming the first band ever who are actively trying to destroy the universe with their album."

On the surface, "Molok" as a the concept, seems to be loosely based on the competing views of science and religion (e.g Cartesian reductionist/mechanism vs religious/spiritualism/animism), told through a story of a man creating a machine, named "Molok", which "gains some form of intelligence as it races through history undergoing its own evolution".

Click on the link below and listen for your self if the new song, "Know Your Time", potentially encapsulates a fractal part of the space time scientific religious "madness" and "sadness" that "Molok" is intended to deliver. I for one, am intrigued and slighly "Molokified".

I thought Demon was the best Gazpacho album since Night, so I'm really excited about Molok.

Demon was surprisingly disappointing to me, especially compared with the Night-Tick Tock-Missa Atropos-March Of Ghosts run. Gazpacho's one of my favorite bands, so if they're already putting out new material, I'm happy. Demon just didn't do anything for me.
Hire me. I'm talentless but malleable.

Just got the album today and listened to it for the first time. Initial impression - not as good as Demon, but I enjoyed it. Overall I gravitate more to their proggier and more ambitious stuff (Night/Demon for example) and this album (with the exception of Molok Rising) was much closer to what the band did on their first couple of albums. I definitely got some Bravo, Firebird and When Earth Lets Go vibes from it, but perhaps with a bit more mature song writing. Considering Demon was just last year, I'm not really that surprised that the new album leans more to their accessible side, and it might be a nice change of pace in case their next album is another more prog-sounding album.

Some days ago Gazpacho released a single for their new album "Soyuz", and boy, it sounds promising - the band going a bit electronic? Nice  :metal

I'd say Night if you're into post-rock, or Demon if you prefer something a bit more proggy - they're both amazing records. This is a good guide in any case.

Night is their best IMO, I'd start there.

Bumping because this is the first Gazpacho thread I've come across in my search (someone put a link to this in the band index thread please), and also because I took the plunge and picked up Firebird today. I really like it a lot, even after just one listen. The songs have a ton of potential to really grow on me.

Nice! Check Night right after it, it's the fan favorite ;)

Speaking of Gazpacho, have you guys listened to the new record, Soyuz? I think it's neat, but boy these songs don't fit well together - it's a mess of styles.
