I sent few days ago but to ask anyway: do you like growls?
akerfeldt is the one person who does growls in a way that I actually like, there are some growls I don't mind/am used to and others that do hamper the experience a bit

tho post-metal and blazkgaze stuff tend to use growls in a good way (bury them enough to make them part of the atmosphere)

I hope you'll like growls in song I sent, it's not like anything else I listen to.

Akerfeldt growls?

I guess it's because I'm new to Opeth, but I had no idea...

on a side note, I cannot get over this East of the Wall album but the songs don't work too well on their own so I dunno if I can send most of these in roulettes  :lol

Good old-fashioned track lengths:

2:37 - 3:50 - 4:23 - 5:08 - 5:46 - 5:51 - 6:04 – 6:06 - 7:12 - 8:55

The bass is really high in the mix, which is a plus. Adds a sense of heaviness to even the quieter moments that keeps things tense.

I think its guitar line is strong enough to carry the first half and the raw energy can carry the second half, so it works.

My first time listening to this, a lot of this song is just in one ear and out the other, which I kinda expected to be fair, but oh well.

Frantic but organized music like this is something that seems to work well, and there’s a strong underlying sense of groove to it that keeps it grounded.

There’s a balance between the more chaotic bits and the more straightforward bits that keeps the song interesting. The only thing is that it may be a bit of a blur, musically; a lot of the riffs aren’t that distinct.

This has decent atmosphere to it but it ends up feeling repetitive by the end. The small subtleties that come in and out don’t change up the mood enough to keep me engaged.

This song feels a bit schizophrenic on first listen, even for the genre, it can’t tell if it wants to be really pretty or if it wants to be really heavy or if it wants to be more technical.

The relaxed groove of the instrumentals are nice and the singer’s voice is okay though a bit rough and not particularly powerful.

When it does kick in I do like it a fair bit, even if it’s not exactly original, but up until that point I find it hard to stay interested or focused on this.

I think the biggest thing about this is that not only does it lack much in the way of dynamics, but it also doesn’t have any huge shifts musically.

I think this is a bit of a mixed round, some songs I think are pretty great stuff, some others I'm meh on or already kind of dislike. We'll see what happens, I guess  :lol
And I kind of figured this would happen but a fair number of the entries I don't really feel fit the theme very much at all but I'm not gonna ask like half of you to resubmit just because of a silly theme that I knew was vague/difficult so we'll just called it a glorified open round oh well.

A lot of these could be mine really, but if it's the bass one, it's probably high in the mix because the band only consists of a drummer and a bass player/lead singer, theres no actual guitar.

The song I sent you isn't one of my personal favorites from the artist, but it's one of their best displays of the theme you set for the round.

there's one or two tracks this round that I just find... boring, and that's one of the worst things a song could be, to me  :(
anyways I need to post the round 8 theme

Round 8: A Dark Design
...is, unsurprisingly, dark songs. On one hand it's hard to define what a "dark" song is, yet on the other hand it seems to be something that's pretty easy to categorize. I don't think it necessarily has to mean one thing in particular but darkness can come in many forms in music and hopefully I'll get a bit of all of them this round.

Let's make me unhappy in the best way? And don't take the wagers.

Why is that a positive thing?

Because back then I recall like half a year when people would send this song every time the round theme was a ballad / dark song / depressing song. I've got kinda tired of it.

And because it was banned in my roulette too, of course.
