Yay you actually liked it more than I thought from the first impression! I think it might be one of those cases where that song came at just the right moment of my life for me to love it, so my quest to find someone who adores it as much as I do might still take a while, but I'm happy you liked it. I'll send for round 3 tonight.

Sweet. I'm glad you enjoyed the song!

It's a good introduction to a great album and band, in my opinion. I'll be sending my round 3 submission shortly

Don't worry, I'm only doing the "under three minutes" thing for as long as it coincides with songs that I want to send. :lol

Also read Homestuck. If you stopped five years ago, you probably hadn't gotten to any of the really great stuff yet.  :P

i don't think it was literally five years ago, i think i lost interest in the huge break before that 10 minute animation and never got back into it since  :lol
way too many plot points for me to remember and it was painfully convoluted
mostly i just thought problem sleuth was a lot more engaging/amusingly weird

I think I chose the only song I shouldn't have chosen of that album :D
I've known Separation and other tracks from Between The Madness for some years, and I only learned Corporatocracy a week ago and it was stuck in my head when I sent round 2. I don't put much attention to the lyrics because english is not my native language but everything you've written is right. I think only the track Useless talks about the same Scarsick topics apart Corporatocracy, and the musical standard of the album is always really high, so I advice you to listen to that album ;)

I just remembered I listened to Circus Maximus (first two albums, they didn't released third back then) and while I liked some of it, it sounded really shallow to me, and a bit technical for sake of it. I think I should give Nine chance then.
P.S. I opened that link on Architect of Fortune and it's thumb up-ed on Youtube. I have no memory of this ???

I knew that snippet was for my song, what I didn't know was the lowest scoring song from last round was acoustic, the funny thing is, when I said I thought I had already sent you my song, I meant to send the normal version, but decided to go for the acoustic one instead.

On a side note: Dangit seneca I wanted to send Architect of Fortune this round :(.

Nine is their best album IMO, you should atleast check out Game of Life (goddamn that solo) and Namaste.

i've been digging this Intronaut album and have been listening to albums from bands like Cynic, East of the Wall, Graviton, Spiral Architect, Anciients, Burst, Baroness etc. so if you have any cool stuff in any of those veins feel free to try for some easy points 'cause i'm digging a lot of this kind of stuff  :lol

I'm not overly familiar with most of the songs from any of those bands either (I'd probably ban The Space for This by Cynic and a few of the Baroness tracks I've heard, but that's about it  :lol )

Also I gave the album from The Sword a listen, lots of cool riffs happening there so odds are I'll get that at some point.

anyways I need two more entries then I can start listening pretty much right away.

First up, song lengths.

2:31 - 3:24 - 4:25 - 4:31 - 4:34 - 4:50 - 6:53 - 7:35 - 7:47 - 10:57

The focus here is the build of the instruments, anyways, and the atmosphere, and that? That is done well, for sure. It doesn’t really feel like it takes too long to get huge, and it teases at it a little closer to the start.

The song goes a lot of places and incorporates a lot of different/weird elements while still sounding pretty cohesive, though on first listen I wouldn’t say I’m, like, crazy about it, but it’s good!

The guitar and drums are having fun screwing a little with the rhythms in the verses while still maintaining a constant time, it’s pretty cool.

Uhh, hopefully this one’s a grower. They’re doing some mildly cool stuff, but I’m not too in to any of it for whatever reason. Nothing wrong with it, just… eh?

It’s a pretty decent slice of instrumental rock with some violin for good measure, but I don’t know how much I’m really going to get out of this.

Like, okay, this isn’t awful, and it’s short enough to not get grating. But it’s just kind of a wall of sound with one or two riffs and some really unpleasant vocals.

The atmosphere of the quiet parts is something I really dig, though, and her voice matches it well. The “suddenly loud” parts kind of… clash though, they’re cool parts but is this really the same song?

The rest of the song just kind of… happened, though. It’s alright and I’m not tired of that bassline yet so I’m not bored or anything, but… dunno, not that engaging.

There’s enough cool riffs here and some good atmosphere to keep me interested. I don’t really think it stands out in any way from the similar stuff in the genre, though.

This does go a lot more places than what I’ve heard from them before, and it’s… alright, but I can’t say it’s doing a whole lot for me on first listen.

I hope most of you sent growers this time around  :lol
or maybe it's just me, i dunno? ehh.

Round 4: A Simple Mistake
The theme of this round is: Non-prog songs! I don't want any wacky tempo changes or complex time signatures, and try to keep the instrumental wankery to a minimum too, a bit of soloing is cool but a three minute solo break ain't gonna fly. Not changing the length limit, you can send a twelve minute non-prog song, but just don't make it prog.

If previous scores for simpler songs are any indication, I want to see some depth from songs, powerful emotions, cool grooves, or good atmosphere. Just a tip.

i sure hope these grow on me, i probably picked a bad time to do first impressions or something, i dunno

maybe it's 'cause i listened to them too soon after listening to Intronaut, which I am currently in love with

and I'm listening to an Alcest album right now, definitely need to get an album from Alcest, they are very good.
