Nightwish Survivor - Bonus Tracks - Round 1
« on: August 15, 2015, 11:09:23 AM »
The last survivor before we go to Consolations is this one, the battle between the tracks that didn't make it to actual albums. I guess some of our regular voters will be sitting this one out, but otherwise, let's have at it!
_________

I'll start with

Lagoon
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

I've gotta give these guys a listen before I vote, but Lagoon is one of the best ones here.
And if spirit's a sign,
Then it's only a matter of time

No way it's one of the best.

I can also go with Live to Tell the Tale, but that's it. I relistened to all the tracks yesterday and those two were the only ones I disliked.

I just listened to everything, and Lagoon isn't quite as good as I remembered. It's good, but I remember really loving it more than I just did. :'( Still a pretty song that doesn't deserve to go this early, and still definitely among the top half of the bonus tracks.

To me, there's a clear top three here. I won't say it yet because I want to see where other come down, but to me there are three that are definite album caliber tracks that are a cut above all the rest.

As for voting, I'm going to go with A Return to the Sea. I mean, it sounds like what it is: An Angels Fall First outtake.
And if spirit's a sign,
Then it's only a matter of time

As the one who made the list, I didn't know that song existed until just now. Looks like it was the Wish I Had An Angel b-side? That's why it wasn't included, then. I only included songs that are readily accessible right now. You could get all the songs on this list by: owning the currently in print editions of all the studio albums, owning the Over the Hills and Far Away EP, and buying Esacpist, While Your Lips Are Still Red and Sagan from iTunes or Amazon for a dollar apiece. To get anything else you'd have to track down singles or other out-of-print releases which makes them pretty inaccessible.

Well, yes, legally inaccessible, but the song is on youtube.. :eek

But anyway, I don't want it on the list, I was just saying.. If it were, I'd vote for it, so I guess is better this way..

Eh, yeah, but I figure if nobody owns it and is just listening to it on YouTube, there's little attachment to the song anyway and so there's little point in including it. The ones here, there's some chance that multiple people own these songs and possibly even have attachments to them, which makes them more interesting candidates. Like Lagoon, which I have a bit of an emotional attachment to.

It won't be too long before I'm voting for Nightquest too, assuming it isn't gone before then. It's a decent Nightwish song, but not much more. Like how A Return to the Sea is most definitely an Angels Fall First outtake, Nightquest is most definitely an Oceanborn outtake.
