Post a painting or picture that describes you, or that you strongly identify with

I'll start with:

Awesome idea for a thread, I'm going to have to think this one through.

Ditto'd. I'll have to search, but I'm following! I'll post a horribly grotesque, pornographic picture very soon, don't you worry.

What's the over/under on how many posts until good ole Edvard makes his appearance?
Argument, the presentation of reasonable views, never makes headway against conviction, and conviction takes no part in argument because it knows.

I recently found these paintings from Thomas Cole. They are a series of (4) paintings where he portrays the stages of life. I can honestly admit that I feel like I'm smack dab in the middle of the third painting...the one where he depicts 'manhood'. Just the trials of life, being a father and husband and maintaining those responsibilities the best I can while the 'rapids' of life try to tear away at you.

The Voyage of Life - Childhood

The Voyage of Life - Youth (I particularly like that the Rapids can be seen off in the distance)

The Voyage of Life - Manhood (Here's the Picture I most Identify With at the Moment)

The Voyage of Life - Old (I like How the wooden Angel that Adorned the front of the boat has been broken off....and how the Calm Sea is the background to the path to eternity for the old soul)

Obviously there is a ton of Spiritual undertone going on in these as well and it's what draws me to them even more. And, i think they are just beautifully crafted as well.

I don't know how to post pictures, but the cover of "Rainbow Rising" comes to mind.

I recently bought a giclee of this painting to hang over my bar, so at the moment, I guess this would be the most representative of me personally.  :lol

That being said, I recently had a chance to visit the MFA in Boston and was completely floored by the portraits of the great American impressionist John Singer Sargent. Especially this one.

I've never been a big portrait fan but Sargent's portraits and watercolor landscapes really resonate with me.

Besides the Water Lilies series, I've always been drawn to this one - La Japonaise. Monet's use of color in this (and all of his work, really) was just astounding.

I saw that one last week at the Boston MFA as well. I liked how they said Monet was challenged to make a large painting for some societal event so he made a giant parity of the current French fashion of anything Japanese. I think the painting is cool but the cartoonish Samurai emerging from the gown spoils the effect some. IMO.

I personally have this to a far greater extent with music and literature over paintings, but my favourite paintings off the top of my head and the ones I feel the most personal attachment to are ones that use vast spaces to represent an inner emotional “landscape”. Things like The Monk By The Sea and The Dog
