Splent's Commute Music Blog
« on: September 15, 2015, 07:23:46 AM »
Don't worry, I'm not texting illegally. I'm using the microphone on my phone.

Just my commute is over an hour each way to work in the morning, and it's going to be a while before my ROULETTE starts, I want to keep a running commentary on music I listen to.  I'm gonna use this as an opportunity to rediscover music I haven't listened to in a long time.

I was reading Orbert's yes thread before I left for work this morning, and so I put on 90125 initially because I was in a very 80s mood.  However I quickly changed it to one of my favorite albums released in that decade.

welcome to the real world – Mr Mister

This is one of my favorite albums not only because I feel it's musically sound and musically complete, but it's one of the earliest albums I remember hearing. My dad loves this album, and being a professional musician he was into a lot of music when I was little. He played this album all the time.

This band doesn't get the credit it deserves.   I'm not GOING TO GO INTO TOO much detail, because this album is definitely going to be in my top 50 when I do it, but here's a few comments I was thinking of WHILE LISTENING TO it to the first time in a while.

It's amazing how many of the songs could be in a John Hughes movie like the breakfast club, and it would work.

The drumming is very complex for a pop rock group… That's why Pat Masthelotto is now in Crimson...

That keyboard SEQUENCE at the beginning of Kyrie… Love it

90125 - yes

Owner of a lonely heart... Such a good song.

I know a lot of people don't like this album because it's n ot yes sounding... I remember when I was a kid I made a running commentary about the song "hold on"... It was really stupid.  I recorded it on tape...

Anytime Im by a keyboard, I have to put it on the marimba setting, and start playing the intro to changes… I used to be mad when the intro ended. It's the best part of the song...

Boo. I was in stitches just at the two things that were quoted.  This gives me a thread idea.

Aja-Steely Dan

I'm going to be honest, I have not listen to this entire album from front to back. I've only listened to many tracks from it on shuffle on my Spotify before I had Spotify premium. Now that I do, I am going to listen to it.

Why don't more bands nowadays use the abundance of seventh chords that they use on electric pianos in the mid to late 70s?. I wish that people would do this more today.

And the horn section... I love me a horn section... This also needs to make a return.

Oh and also flowing downward electric piano chords that you hear a lot in mid 70s - early 80s RnB and smooth jazz.  That I need to make a return. Especially when it's put through that vibrato setting… I love that so much

I wish I was driving on the highway through a big city with a bunch of lights at night. This is what this reminds me of so far. Are these the vision I have

I understand why these guys were so anal about recording these albums. They're so tight in there harmonies instrumentally, and that's very difficult to do

Scale the Summit - V

Brand-new music this morning! Listen to this on the way to work… It's wonderful how a band can pump me up as well as make me feel calm at the same time.

chvrches new album

I'm transported back to 1987

This album is so far more polished than the first album (not they the first one wasn't polished...)

Feeling a more general "wall of synth" sound that I love from synthpop type music.
