I'm thinking of getting into Pain of Salvation. Any info/recommendations/where should I start? Thanks all.

Anyway, we have these threads a lot and I'm betting most people will tell you to start with The Perfect Element or Remedy Lane. Personally, I'd suggest Remedy Lane.

Oh, and a lot of people will probably also suggest not starting with Scarsick.

Don't start with Scarsick, it takes time to appreciate that album.

Remedy Lane is probably the best album ever made, start with that.

Leave Scarsick and Be till the end.

While it's on the bottom half of my album rankings and probably below Scarsick, definitely start with Remedy Lane. Easily their most accessible and simple, while still being awesome and showing what they're about

After that get The Perfect Element Pt. 1, one of the best prog albums ever made and an emotional musical masterpiece in every way

Yeah, can't go wrong with Remedy Lane and The Perfect Element.
The new DVD is also very, very good.

The perfect element and remedy lane are great albums to start with. Then you will be ready for BE.

All those albums are a "must hear" even if you don't like one of them, don't let that stop you checking out the others. Then try Entropia and BE. The latter is mostly filler but it has some of their best stuff. Don't waste your time or/and money on Scarsick.

As a huge PoS fanboy, I have to say that we have too many threads on these guys.

Start with one of their less good albums, like OHBTCL or Entropia (not to say either is bad) cause it's a real shame to start at the very top and work your way down.

I'd start with their first two albums: Entropia and One Hour by the Concrete Lake. I'm still new to PoS myself, but so far these two have easily been my favourites.

This is your subjective opinion so don't confuse him just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's bad. Scarsick is the most hard to get into but after many many listenings it will grow on you incredibly strong at least for me it happened. I hated it from first listen btw. I think the biggest reason why so many people hate Scarsick is beacuse they have given up too soon on it. It really is as good as other POS albums just different...

I was getting into POS albums in this order: (In this order I started to love them, first listens would be slightly different order)

Remedy Lane
The Perfect Element
One Hour By The Concrete Lake
BE
Entropia
Scarsick

The other PoS thread is locked so this one will do. So this band just last night clicked for me. I'd previously listened to BE, but didn't really 'get' it. I'd never been a fan of Daniel's vocals, and on casual listening the music did nothing for me either. But I'm working nightshift again this week which gives me time to listen to lots of albums in their entirety and with no distractions. And they're great! His singing is so expressive, and the music is for the most part totally epic. They manage to provoke in me feelings that I normally only get from listening to albums by my favourite bands, even though I'm totally unfamiliar with their music. Last night listened to Scarsick and Remedy Lane, great albums! I think I preferred Scarsick, although I gather that's not the favourite for many people.

Anyways, good stuff! Gonna check out The Perfect Element tonight

It baffles me how people can actually not like DG's voice.

Even thinking about it goes way over my head.

To me, it symbolizes everything a great voice should be.

It's not a praise album. I'm agnostic and I love the album. It's a great look at a potential god. Has nothing to do with god in the normal ways.

Daniel is an Atheist himself. The album is just a good story, really, with much potential for truth.

It happens to make some excellent points about our real world, as well.

Additionally, following-up on their latest “Road Salt” releases, Pain of Salvation have now started to work on material for a next studio album effort, which will be a concept album that goes back to the band’s harder and heavier roots of the early 2000’s. Pain of Salvation’s Daniel Gildenlöw has checked in with a brief status report on the band’s current activities as follows:

“We have a few gigs on the horizon, but in all honesty, our true focus is on the next studio album right now. Ragnar and I truly enjoy writing music together, and have that sort of completing-each-other’s-sentences dynamics to our writing that I have only found in very few people over the years. We have very creative writing sessions, and we can’t wait for the fans to hear the new material! You’ll see a hungry and strong Pain of Salvation, confidently returning to a harder and heavier form, musically. Still, as always, without losing the intimacy and originality that has been the trademark of the band ever since the first album. Anyone who has witnessed on stage what today’s Pain of Salvation are capable of, will understand how much I am looking forward to show them what we can do in a studio.”
