What DT Song Is The Easiest On The Drums?
« on: August 11, 2009, 04:53:54 PM »
Hey guys, I've been playing drums for a little over a year, and I'm looking for an easy and interesting DT song to play on the drums. All I have is a basic set (Hi-hat, 3 toms, snare, bass (double bass pedal), 2 crahes, and a ride). I want an interesting song, but not one that requires 65 cymbals, obscure time changes, and masterful rudiment work (if that's even possible in DT).

Look through Portnoy's drum DVDs.
He tends to leave off the really easy songs, so that may give you a hint.
Disappear, The Answer Lies Within, and Anna Lee come to mind as easy songs.

Setra, I think that is the best statement I have read on this forum.  Very well said.

I don't know if this is true for drums specifically, but I'd say (in general) the easiest DT song is "The Spirit Carries On".

Sure, the guitar solo is wild, but the song overall is very simple.

A Rite of Passage is not very complex, has some cool fills, and is awesome for just banging the drums and rock  :metal.

for a beginner, some of the fills are a little hard towards the end.

the second part, for a beginner?
I can't even get all of the second part perfectly...

I knew someone would say this instead of giving a nice answer.  just letting you know it wasn't funny.

The Mirror was the first song I learned on Drums. Constant Motion is also pretty easy, save for the guitar solo.

on par with the anguish one would have from getting unconsensually bent over and buttloved.

yah everything but the guitar solo part is easy.  once you get better though, you can fake your way through it and make it still sound good like i did.

I don't know if I'd classify faking your way through it as getting better at it. :p

As far as learning a song goes, I thought TROAE was really quick.  There are basically three patterns you gotta learn, plus a brief solo, and they're all rather simplistic imo.  The only real "challenge" in this song is endurance; your calves will be burning from all the heavy bass kick work.

Seconded.  TROAE  was really easy for me.  The only problem a beginner might have is the close hihat sections.  because you gotta open it at a time you may not be used to, + hitting the snare right after.

Well I've been playing for a year, so I guess I'm a half beginner, half intermediate. But once I upgrade some hardware I'll take a stab at some of these songs. Thanks guys by the way.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that part. If I recall correctly it is some double bass with some crazy work on the cymbals, like some parts of Home, but it can be cool as a challenge for double bass playing, and the rest of the song is not that hard IMO.

The first 4 songs on Octavarium are all easy.
